MRS. ELEANOR ELIZABETH BECHDHOLT, beloved wife of the late Mr. Carl
Bechdholt, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Extendicare Nursing
Home on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her children; Graham (Coral) Bechdholt of
Calgary, Charlene (Dallas) Nesbit of Lethbridge, David Bechdholt

She is also survived by her siblings Flossie Ann Lycett, Ron Guy and
Alf Guy.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Carl Bechdholt, parents Henry
and Winnifred Guy, sisters Jen Harris and Edna Page and brothers
Thomas Guy and Absolum Guy.
Dad and Mom met at a dance. That momentous day, Dad asked Mom if he
could walk her home. She said she brought her bike. He said he could
push it home for her. That was the beginning of a romance that would
last 57 years. Mom was an English War Bride who came to Canada in
July 1948 on the Aquitania. She married Carl on August 1, 1948. In
1998, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A romance that
lasted until Dad died in December 2004. They held hands until he
passed away.
Eleanor was born in Coventry, England on January 29, 1921. She
worked as a domestic in Birmingham, England for many years for the
Mallett family. They loved her like a daughter. Mr. Mallett offered
to pay for Eleanor’s way back home if things did not work out with
her Canadian husband. It was a culture shock to come to Canada, but
Eleanor was a strong, determined woman who put her mind to making a
life with her new husband.
Mom was a housewife and a stay at home mother. Her greatest pride
and joy were her 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 6 great
grandchildren. She missed her English home and family and after 18
years of marriage she finally returned home for a visit. She was
fortunate to return home at least 5 more times. The last time she
returned home was when she was 85 years old with her daughter.
Eleanor was a member of the Alberta War Brides Association. She
loved getting together with the girls, talking about home and the
social events the AWB offered. Mom enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing
canasta, getting her hair done, shopping, Christmas and interacting
with people. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother.
