SALLY WENDY MARY CROSS CHILD, eldest daughter of Theresa Cross Child
and the late Pat Cross Child Sr. of the Blood Reserve, passed away

age of 41 years.
Sally was born on March 30, 1967 at the Blood Indian Hospital, the
eldest of five siblings; Patrick Jr. (Tanya), Wes (Michelle), Sharon

fullest and touched everyone with her special spirit and quick sense
of humour. Sally attended the Dorothy Gooder School in her early

In her later years she moved to the Kainai Continuing Care Centre
and it became her special home. She loved to tease the other
residents and loved the caring workers that attended to her every
need. She always showed love and concern for all the residents and
was very compassionate when they were sick or feeling down.
Sally was an extraordinary little girl that touched all our lives in
a special way. She had a special relationship with our blessed
Virgin Mother, Mary and often called upon her when she was sick or
scared. It comforts the family to know that she is now in the hands
of our Heavenly Mother.
Sally will be deeply missed by her mother and siblings, nieces,
nephews and her special cousins Christie (Brice) Wells and Ethel Low
Horn and her special nephews and niece Dwight (Mandy), Mason and
Sheree, who she helped raise. Sally is survived by her uncles; Dale

ANNE
CAMPBELL
2008

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” ~ Matthew
5:8
ANNE CAMPBELL, beloved and loving wife of George H. Campbell for
over 75 years, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side
at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the
age of 93 years.
Besides her loving husband, Anne is survived by her two daughters
Pat (John) Lawson and Audrey Campbell of Lethbridge and
grandchildren Sharon Lawson of Lethbridge and Neil De Maere in
Japan.
She was predeceased by a daughter Doreen in 1949, parents and four
siblings.
In 1932, Anne married George in Manitoba and assumed the demanding
role of a farm wife. Family, friends and hired men knew that mom’s
hearty meals, accompanied by her fresh baked bread, cinnamon buns,
cakes or pies were a delicious reflection of her hospitality.
After retiring from farming, Anne and George moved to Lethbridge in
1978. They were blessed to be able to live in their home until
October 2005. During those years she enjoyed and appreciated the
friendship and help of wonderful neighbours. Mom kept a lovely home
and was happiest when surrounded by family.
We are grateful to have had our wonderful wife, mom and grandma in
our lives for so many years. We will miss her lovely smile and
voice, be comforted by her legacy of love, generosity and
forgiveness and the inspiration of her consistent faith in God.
We wish to thank Dr.’s Gamil and Mona Cassis, Dr. Ikuta, the staff
at SMHC, Terry and Ashley from Quality Care and previous private
care givers for their kindness and wonderful care of Anne.
A private family Graveside Service was held at Mountain View
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s memory may be made to the

As a member of the Lone Fighter and Fish Eater Clans she lived in
the Standoff area of Blood Reserve all of her life. She was raised
in the traditional ways of Kainai. Her father Spitaikowan was born
in 1874 and her mother in 1876. Unfortunately, in 1934 at age 12,
she lost her mother but was able to spend many quality years with
her father until his passing in 1960.
Louise excelled at whatever she undertook. She was a meticulous
homemaker, a fine seamstress, a great cook and a wonderful
storyteller. A truly compassionate person, a loving mother and
grandmother and a true friend - she was always a pillar of strength
for those in need. She had special place in her heart for the young
people she met during her years working in the schools and at KCCS
and was much concerned with the future and their well being.
She completed the highest level of instruction permissible in the
residential school system in 1938 that being Grade 8. She and her
friend Helen had a special talent for music and played the piano,
the organ and the violin. Later in life she took upgrading and
attended Mount Royal College obtaining certification as a Teacher’s
Aide and worked in the Kainai education system for 14 years as a
Teacher’s Aide and student counselor. She also worked at St. Paul’s
Centre and wrote for the Kainai News. After her retirement she was
much sought after by the community for her knowledge, wisdom and
diplomacy and served on many advisory boards and committees
including Kainai Community Corrections Society, Tribal Government &
External Affairs, Red Crow Community College, Kainai Board of
Education, and Kainai Children’s Services. She, along with other
members of the Elders’ Advisory Committee, was awarded the
designation of eminent scholar by Red Crow College in recognition of
their traditional knowledge and contributions. Louise served on the
College’s Elders Advisory Board for 18 years.
Louise grew up among her elderly relatives including her uncle
Morning Bird and his wife Niitsitaki from whom she acquired much of
her traditional knowledge and the archaic form of Blackfoot which
was still prevalent in her formative years in the 1920s. The
traditional values of compassion, respect, dignity and commitment to
family and community shaped her personality and guided her conduct
throughout life. She found solace in the traditional beliefs and
practices and drew her strength from them. She was a long time
member of the Motoki and Brave Dog societies.
Louise will be sadly missed by her family, friends and community.
She will be forever remembered for her kind, gentle and thoughtful
ways and for her wisdom and extensive knowledge of Blood Tribe
history, culture, and the Blackfoot language.
A Wake Service will be held at Louise’s Residence, Standoff on
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the OLD SAIPOYI SCHOOL, Standoff
on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.

DR. CHEN
2008

Dr. Yoon Chang Chen, beloved partner of Marjorie Chen of Calgary,
passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on February 7, 2008 at
the age of 72 years.
He is the loving father of Lei Lian (Chen) and Darren Pepper of
Lethbridge, Kim Chen and Jill Kinsey of Bluffdale, Utah, Su-Lin
(Chen) and Tony Fantella of Melbourne, Australia and Bruce Harvey
(Stepson). He is also the loving grandfather of: Jesse, Jordan,
Katie and Zoe Pepper, Courtney and Michael Chen and Tatiana and
Chloe Fantella. He is also survived by a large, extensive and loving
family in Singapore.
It is impossible to encompass a rich life in just a few sentences.
Our father was Dr. Chen to his patients, Dad to us, Poppy Chen to
his grandchildren, and Chuck to his partner and friends. He was a
wonderful example of tenacity and force of will as he quietly
achieved more than many achieve in several life times---a chemical
engineer, a pre-med student and finally a podiatrist. He taught all
of us the true meaning of “following your passion” at any age. He
never settled for just one goal but many as he embraced life to its
fullest in his work, his art and his loves of travel, ballroom
dancing and truly enjoying a good meal. He will be greatly missed by
his family, his friends, his patients and everyone who was fortunate
enough to know him. We will eternally carry him and his example in
our hearts, minds and lives.
No service will be held at the family’s request.
In his memory, donations may be made to the Chinook Regional
Hospital, 960-19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
