TINA DE GROOT
1924 - 2008

TINA DEGROOT (nee Kingma), dearly loved mother, oma,
great-grandmother and friend, went to be with her heavenly Father on
January 6, 2008.
Tina lived 83 grace-filled years, in the hope and power of the
resurrected Christ. Her dear husband Peter died in November 1997.
Mom (Oma) leaves a rich legacy of love and Christian commitment. We,
her children, Klaaske and Neil deKoning, Rudy and Greta deGroot,
Dennis and Jenny deGroot, Ann and John deGelder, Theo and Marie-Anne
deGroot, Carol and Arnold Kaemingh, Peter and Rudy deGroot,
twenty-nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, will live
with the memories of a life well-lived, infused with gentleness,
optimism and selfless giving.
Tina was born in Burdaard, Frysland, the Netherlands on June 11,
1924. Her youth was filled with the love and laughter of many
friends, a compassion for sick as she worked in a hospital, a deep
commitment to her family, and zest for life. She met and married the
love of her life in 1951. Tina and Peter had two children before
immigrating to Southern Alberta. It was in Lethbridge where they
raised five more children and became a vital part of supporting and
loving Christian community. Mom and Dad lived a happy and full life
together for 46 years.
Alzheimer’s disease took Tina away from her home in Lethbridge. She
lived her last years in the loving care of family and then in a
Lacombe nursing home. Even as Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of
connecting with those she loved, her gentle spirit and sense of
humor shone through.
Mom (Oma) is home now, resting in the eternal embrace of her
Heavenly Father. We, her children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and friends are richer because of the life she
lived.
“Blessed are those who die in the Lord; they will rest from labors,
for their deeds will follow them.” Revelation 14:13
