PETER VERMEER
1927 - 2008

PETER VERMEER went to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 5, 2008, after 80 incredibly full and wonderful years.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his best friend and love of his life, Theodora, for 56 years. He will be deeply missed by his brothers Gerrit (Mary) and Ben (Annie), his sons Reny (Ruth) and their children Rachel and Megan and John (Joyce) and their children Aaron and Aamee.
Peter was born in the Netherlands on July 28, 1927. He had an adventurous spirit and experienced life to the fullest. He immigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Brandon, MB. His soon-to-be wife followed in 1952 and they were married soon after her arrival. He became a Psychiatric Nurse, working in the hospital for the mentally ill in Brandon. Dad was a man of deep faith and conviction and loved a good discussion, but was always gentle to challenge and encourage thought and not cause dissention or hurt feelings. He was a patient and loving mentor to his family. It is difficult to encapsulate Dad in words but to those of us who were fortunate enough to know him, he leaves a deep and lasting understanding that we need to make a difference in the world in which we live.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre, Dr. Seim and Dr. Geers for their compassionate care.
