DE BOER, THEODORUS "DICK" ADRIANUS
1923-2010
MR. THEODORUS A. “DICK” de BOER, beloved Husband of Ann de Boer, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, August 20th, 2010 at the age of 87 years.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by his family: Dick (Brenda) de Boer of Coalhurst, Simon (Darlene) de Boer of Lethbridge, Jack (Cindy) de Boer of Monarch, Annette (Rick) Keating of Cochrane, Al (Gina) de Boer of Lethbridge, Mike (Julia) de Boer of Lethbridge, Len (Laura) de Boer of Lethbridge, John (Laurie) de Boer of Monarch, Bob (Sherri) de Boer of Monarch and Dave (Cheryl) de Boer of Lethbridge.
Dick is also survived by his 29 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 sisters and their families in Holland.
He was predeceased by his grandson Brian de Boer, parents Dirk and Anna de Boer, two brothers and one sister.
Dick was born April 23rd, 1923 in Holland, where he was raised and educated. After marrying Ann Kramer, they immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1952 with 2 children. In 1956 he moved his family to southern Alberta where he continued to farm until his retirement in 1985.
Throughout their retirement, Dick and Ann enjoyed numerous activities, including golf, lawn bowling, gardening and actively participating in their church and community. They spent many winters in Arizona where they met a number of close friends. Dick always enjoyed the company of his family and close friends. He was an incredible inspiration to his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday August 25th, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 917 – 4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Thursday, August 26th 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle Celebrant.
A private family interment will follow the Funeral Mass at Mountain View Cemetery.

DOUGLAS, RUBY LENA
1922-2010
Ruby Douglas passed away at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB on June 19, 2010 surrounded with love by her children – Linda, Jim, Marlene, Jack and Eileen, and by her grand children – Doug, Stacey, Cara, Crista, Jamie, Derrick and David. Other family not able to be with her – Sean, Garrett and Joe as well as Jan, Elijah, Jessie, David, Cheryl, Clint, Berkley and Garth. She was 88 years old.
Waiting to greet her into loving arms on the other side were her beloved husband, Harvey “Doug” Douglas, adopted son Edward “Eddie” Stick, her parents John and Violet, sister Edna and brothers Henry and George.
Ruby was born in La Grande, Oregon on April 27, 1922 to John Williams and Violet (Duffield) Williams. Together with two sisters, Myrtle and Edna, and two brothers, Henry and George, the family moved to Cereal in southern Alberta and eventually to Bowden, Alberta where they farmed. In October 1942, Ruby married Doug Douglas. Ruby and Doug had a very special love during more than 50 years of life together.
In 1952, Ruby, with two children, Linda and James (“Jim”), followed Doug from Edmonton to Aishihik in the Yukon where their third child John (“Jack”) was born.
In 1955, they moved to Watson Lake, Yukon where they became friends with Rudy & Janet Couture, Roy & Ellen Eby, Helen & Jim Stuart and Doug & Pearl Bell. These friendships were renewed when they all eventually moved to Whitehorse, Yukon – those friendships survive to this day.
As a teenager, Eddie Stick became part of the Douglas family in Whitehorse where Ruby worked for the Federal Department of Communications. She was an avid curler and square dancer and she loved to play cards. Ruby and Doug were always the best dancers on the floor.
They remained in the Yukon until they both retired to Balfour, BC in 1979. They later moved to Lethbridge, AB to be closer to family. After her beloved Doug died in Lethbridge in 1997, Ruby moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to her children.
Ruby genuinely cared about everyone she met. She became a second Mom to many of her children’s friends who still call her Mom Douglas. Ruby made life-long friends wherever she went and always had a huge meal and kind words for everyone who graced her door.
Ruby is survived by her sister Myrtle as well as her children, grand children and great-grand children. We love you and we will miss you.
Ruby’s family would like to thank the 5 North nurses, especially Pam and Michelle, and Dr. Wang who took such wonderful care of our Mom.

MRS. KAREN ANN DeYOUNG, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Edward and mother of Thomas (Julie) and Kristin Fredrickson (Scott), grandmother of Mercedes, Brianna, Taylor, Matthew, Arajean, Michelle, Austin and Jaden, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the age of 64 years.
Karen was a 24 year breast cancer survivor who fought the disease with determination, grace and an unshakeable faith in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was also an avid quilter, teacher’s assistant and dear friend to many.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M.
Interment will be held prior to the service at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Scenic Drive & 11th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 9:30A.M.

SHAWNA RAE DEMPSEY-ALI
1983-2009
SHAWNA RAE DEMPSEY-ALI born March 29, 1983 died November 23, 2009.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Shawna Rae and unborn baby Kenyen Marley.
Left to mourn her loss are her husband Musa Ali, parents Trudy and John Dempsey, sister Dayna (Tom) Webb, special nephew Braeden and special niece Araeannah, who knew her as Taunty.
Even at an early age Shawna loved her sports, partaking in Karate, judo, soccer, baseball, rugby, and jogging. She had a passion for reading from which she gained knowledge and wisdom. Shawna graduated from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in 2001. Thereafter enrolling in Print Journalism at Lethbridge Community College where she became an editor of the College newspaper The Endeavor.
Travel was another passion of Shawna’s, with trips to the Dominican Republic, England, Ireland, Las Vegas and a special trip to Costa Rica where she met the love of her life Musa. They lived together in Costa Rica for six months before returning to Canada where they were married on September 27, 2008.
Shawna had a love for children which was evident when she opened a day home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Wendy Gillett, Funeral Celebrant officiating. A private family interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.

ANDREW DEJAGER
1939-2009
MR. ANDREW DeJAGER beloved husband of Mrs. LaRae DeJager of Coaldale, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the age of 70 years.
Andy was the loving father of Robin DeJager of Welling and Vincent (Vicki) DeJager of Lethbridge. He is also survived by Shirley DeJager (his first wife) of Welling, AB., John (Maryann) DeJager of Lethbridge, AB., Nellie (Wiebe) Varwegen of Lethbridge, AB, Dennis (Diane) DeJager of Taber, AB., Hans DeJager of Airdrie, AB., Hank (Julie) DeJager of Lethbridge, AB., and numerous nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by the late Mrs. Cornelia DeJager (mom) and Mr. Adrian DeJager (dad).
Andy was born in Neudorp, Holland. He moved to Canada at the age of 13 with his father, mother and 3 brothers and 1 sister. After arriving in Canada 1 more brother would join their family making 5 siblings altogether. Andy was blessed with two children; a daughter and a son that he raised with Shirley. Andy had a love of music, he managed a band called “The Eldorado’s” and toured with “The Champ’s”. Quite often he could be found dancing the night away.
In his later years Andy met his best friend and love of his life LaRae, and they were married. The two of them spent countless hours watching wrestling, travelling, hosting dinners and enjoying family time. After doing various jobs throughout his life, Andy retired and joined the Corps of Commissionaires, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Andy loved all the children in his life and took every chance he had to spoil them. Andy had no grandchildren as of yet, but will always be remembered as a Grandpa figure by Monique, Madison and Kaeden.
A viewing will be held at FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 1402-8 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB. on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Andrew Joosse officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

RICHARD ALAN DYCK
1962-2009
RICHARD ALAN DYCK, beloved son of Ike and Susie Dyck of Lethbridge passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the age of 46 years.
He is survived by his mother Susie, brother Cornnie (Debbie), sisters Maryann (John), Susan, Helen (Rob) Margaret (Denis) and 15 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Ike Dyck and his brother Isaac Dyck. Richard was born in Coaldale and attended school out in Coaldale and in Hardieville. Richard was a quiet guy that worked at Triple M for many years and was struck down quickly by cancer. On his days off he loved to go to the mountains to camp and fish. He also loved spending time with his dog Minnie and his mom. He will be greatly missed.

IRIS BARBARA DIES, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the age of 85 years, at the Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge, AB.
Iris is survived by one sister, Bessie Quirk of Vancouver, B.C. Four children: Janice St. John (Al Mervyn) of Lethbridge, AB., Lynette (Bill) Entzminger of Warner, AB., Vicki (Dave) Neilson of Stirling, AB., and Craig (Joan) Dies of Victoria, B.C. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Iris was predeceased by her loving husband Joe in 1996, parents Cliff and Esther Biggers, brother Boyd Biggers, sister Bernice Collin and brother-in-laws Larry Collin and Frank Quirk.
Iris was born August 30th, 1924 in Warner, AB. to parents Cliff and Esther Biggers and was raised on the family dairy farm. She met and married the love of her life, Joseph Dies, they were married for 53 years.
Iris was a strong-willed woman and a survivor of polio. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre for their care and compassion.

SARI DUTCHYSHEN (nee Misak), beloved wife of Don Dutchyshen, of Red Deer, AB., passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the age of 75 years.
She is survived by her mother in law Pauline Dutchyshen, three brothers Steve (Debbie) Misak of Bluefield, West Virginia, Alex (Ruby) Misak of Lethbridge, AB. and Leslie (Irene) Misak of Calgary, AB. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Steve and Irma, and her sister Irene.

PETER THEODORES DELAUW
1929 - 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather. Peter Theodores DeLauw passed away in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Friday, August 14, 2009. He was 79. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lena and his sons Peter (Carmen), and Fred (Tara), and his grandsons Ross, Austin, Nolan, Eric, and Jordan.
Peter was born in Holland in 1929 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1949. He was the second of nine children of which 2 now remain. He met Lena in Kimberly, BC before moving to Monarch in 1969 with their 2 young sons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there with family and friends last year. Pete and Lena lived there until this year when they moved to Lethbridge.
Pete was a hard working man who worked as a lumberjack and in saw mills in BC then later had a long career at Consolidated Concrete in Lethbridge. He enjoyed making wooden wagons for his grandsons and other children, building Dutch style windmills with his brother Frank and sharpening knives for his friends at White Lake Colony. He liked listening to accordion music.
He beat cancer twice because of his positive attitude.
