HUARD, HENRI "HENRY" CAMILLE
1925-2010
HENRY CAMILLE HUARD, beloved friend of Mae Lewis of Picture Butte, AB., passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the age of 84 years.
Henry was the loving father of; Betty (Frank) Pollard of Shaughnessy, AB., Beverley (Larry) Saretzky of Kelowna, BC., Barbara (Bryan) Harrison of Lloydminster, SK., Rodney (Elaine) Huard of Wainwright, AB., Douglas Huard of Vernon, B.C., Wendy (John) Sirovyak of Edmonton, AB. and Victor (Kathy) Huard of Saskatoon, SK. Henry is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother George Huard of Penticton, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Marie Rose, father Camille, brothers Louis, Victor, Arthur and Wilford and sisters Blanche and Marie.
Henry was born on August 4, 1925 on the homestead in Whitkow, Saskatchewan to Marie Rose and Camille Huard. As their family grew it became necessary for Dad to seek work away from the family farm at the tender age of 13 years. This allowed him to mature and develop good work ethics. He met and married Jean Gordon in 1945. Together they had 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys.
Dad went on to become a mechanic and spent the next 25 years working in Lloydminster, Alberta. He then moved to Edmonton where he worked until he retired. During his retirement he let his free spirit take over and did a lot of traveling. When he was finished traveling he moved into the Piyami Manor in Picture Butte where he resided until his passing.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating.

HICKEY, GERARD
1919-2010
GERARD JOSEPH HICKEY, beloved husband of the late Kathleen Hickey, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the age of 91 years.
Gerard is survived by two sons; Lorne of Wilson Siding and Dale of Lethbridge as well as 3 Step-granddaughters and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by mom (Kay) and his parents Mike and Theresa Hickey.
Dad was born in Lethbridge on May 8, 1919 where he lived until 1923 when they moved to the farm south of Wilson Siding.
Dad married Kay Thompson on January 27, 1943. Mom and dad were married for 63 years. They farmed and raised livestock until moving to Lethbridge in 1982.
Dad loved farming and continued to come to the farm until 2007 when he was no longer able to do so.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.

CONNIE CHRISTINE HIRAGA (nee PANSKY), beloved wife of Kevin Hiraga of Lethbridge, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the age of 41 years.
She is survived by her husband Kevin and kids Ashley and Kyle. As well as her two dogs Keiko and Koji.
Also survived by her mother Jean (Blair), a sister Shelly (Steve), two brothers Darren, Darcy and nieces & nephews Cody, Taylor, Alyssa and Emma. As well as in-laws, George, Darren (Tammie) and Barry.
Connie was predeceased by her father John Pansky, Brother Kelly Pansky and mother and father in-law Pauline and Jerome Hiraga.
Connie was a very fun loving person, who touched the hearts of many people. Raising two wonderful children was the greatest accomplishment of her amazing life.
She really enjoyed shopping and was fortunate to enjoy a family trip to Las Vegas just a week ago. Her wonderful “smile and laugh” will be sadly missed, but will never be forgotten.

HORN, FLORENCE "ESTHER"
1921-2010
MRS. ESTHER HOUSTON BODELL HORN, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Melvin Horn, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
She is survived by three children; Dan (Marilyn) Bodell of Lethbridge, Lois (John) Jardine of Lethbridge and Sharon (Ray) Baker of Calgary; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by one sister, Barbara Suffisick; Esther was predeceased by her mother, Florence Houston, son, Dale Bodell; 2 brothers, Herbert and Jack Houston, and by one great-grandson Garrett Jardine.
Esther was born in Calgary, Alberta January 12, 1921. She moved to Twin Butte, Alberta where she, her two brothers, one sister and their mother resided with their uncle, Buddy Jamieson. Esther attended Spread Eagle School in Twin Butte. At a very young age she worked for neighbours in the area and in Pincher Creek. In 1939 she married Frank Bodell and moved to Lethbridge in 1940 where they raised their four children. Frank passed away in 1974. Esther then was involved with Automatic Electric and Pre-Built Trailer Manufacturers. She was also involved in the organization of the Westminster Neighbourhood Association and was on the board for 11 years, and for a time managed the Westminster Hall. Esther was involved in the development of the Nord-Bridge Senior’s Centre and founder of the Mind Joggers Writing Club. She joined the Minus One Club where she met Melvin Horn and married him in 1986.
Their favourite past-times were spontaneous trips in their car and motor home to places that included Florida, the Vancouver area and west to her beloved mountains.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive S., Lethbridge on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 at 1:00 PM, with Bishop Randy Smith officiating. A time of fellowship & refreshments will follow at the Nord-Bridge Senior’s Centre, 1904 – 13 Ave. N.

MARY ELIZABETH HOVAN
February 21, 1921 – May 15, 2010
Mary Elizabeth Hovan (nee Donkin), the beloved wife of the late Albert Hovan, passed away on May 15, 2010 in Lethbridge at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
She was predeceased by her husband Al, her son David and grandson Michael.
She survived by her brother Bob Donkin, son Tom (Sharon), granddaughters; Chrissy (Jacob) Roecker of Elgin, Oklahoma, Kimmie (Scott) Ully of Lethbridge, and Dian (David) Stewart of Thatcher, Arizona, 6 great grandchildren: Eliza, Daniel, Rainey, and Michael Roecker, and Makynna and Oryn Ully, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born and raised in Frank, Alberta where she met Al. When WWII broke out, Al joined the army and was stationed in Petawawa, Ontario. Mary followed and they were married in Pembroke. Shortly after, Al was sent overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Mary returned to Lethbridge to live and work. When Al returned they took up residence in Lethbridge where they raised their family.
Mary worked for several businesses in the city and eventually retired as switchboard operator and admitting clerk from the Municipal Hospital just before it was closed.
Mary was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the UTU.

MRS. ELIZABETH “ELLY” HOPMAN, beloved wife of Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Hopman, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the age of 73 years.
Elly is survived by her husband Gerry, her sons Gary (Debbie) Hopman of Lethbridge and Gerry Hopman of Calgary as well as grandchildren; Jordan Stewart, Kailey, Jarett and Taylor Hopman. She is also survived by her 5 brothers; Matt Simons, Frank (Gladys) Simons, Pierre (Mary-Lou) Simons, Charlie (Judy) Simons and Willie (Antoinette) Simons as well as two sisters in law; Tina Simons of Lethbridge and Johanna Simons of Calgary; along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Elly was predeceased by her daughter Sandra Stewart on June 7, 1997 and two brothers, Al and Joe Simons.
Elly was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law and friend to all who knew her. She was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed her.
Elly was a very creative person who conducted her own business for many years as “Elly’s Creations”.

HOOPER, WILLIAM GEORGE NELSON

MR. WILLIAM (BILL) GEORGE NELSON HOOPER of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Hooper, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the age of 84 years.
Besides his loving wife of 53 years, Bill will be sadly missed by his children; Brad (Melissa), Greg (Carol) and their children Lauren and Nicolette; Russ (Lisa) and their children Brayden, Megan and Austin; Deb and her children Jay and Kaleigh. He will also be missed by his brother Frank of Oahu, Hawaii.
Dad was a loving husband and a caring, devoted father who loved to share his passions with his children and grandchildren. The many days spent on the ski hill, sailing, fly-fishing on the Crowsnest and RV’ing will be fondly remembered.
Bill began his career surveying for the Alberta Government, he continued working in highway construction for National Paving, Tollestrup Construction and then formed CoHo Paving with the Cook family of Pincher Creek. Bill concluded his career with Top Notch Construction in 1991 and in 1997 was inducted as an Honourary Lifetime Member of the Alberta Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association.
Bill’s 21-year challenge with Parkinson’s never diminished his spirit for living.

HUMMEL, GEORGE ALFRED
February 25, 1927 – April 12, 2010
Beloved husband of Alice, adored father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 after a long illness.
George was born and raised in Champion, Alberta, where he farmed from the age of 17 until retirement in his mid-70s. He loved agriculture, aviation, big band music, southern Alberta and Canada’s north country, but most of all loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice (Anderson) of the Anderson Sisters Orchestra; six children, Bernie (Janet) Hummel, Eleanor (Lyle) Smith, Ruth Hummel, Grant (Wendy) Hummel, Grace (Gord) MacLeod, and Joan (Jeff) Penwell; six grandchildren, Jerad (Kyla) Smith, Warren (Jen) Smith, Connie Hummel, Lauren (Matt) Ostridge, Colin MacLeod and Stuart MacLeod; and four great grandchildren, Hannah, Garnett, Ainsley and Landon George. He is also survived by siblings Dorothy Degenstein, Racille (George) Ellis, and Ramon (Jean) Hummel.
George will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humour, attempts to play the violin, coaching of Team George in the Lethbridge Parkinson’s SuperWalk, and for his countless hours of community service, especially for the Village of Champion and as a charter member of the Champion Lions Club. His philosophy was to work hard, laugh often, and always help those less fortunate.
A private service for family will be held to celebrate George’s life.
His family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Mona Cassis and other health care professionals, including those at St. Therese Villa, for their care and support.
