MRS. MARGARET ROSALEEN MATLOCK (NEE FITZSIMMONS), of Lethbridge, passed away at the Lethbridge Extendicare on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the age of 90 years.

Marg leaves to mourn her three children Pat (Don) Demers, John Matlock, and Tim Matlock. Also missing her will be nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, one brother Allen Fitzsimmons and one sister Agnes Westlake.
She is predeceased by her husband Jesse Matlock in 1987, two brothers and two sisters.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. with Francis and Cybele Noronha officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH 2405 – 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

KENNON, MARGARET IRENE
1925 - 2010
MRS. MARGARET “PEGGY” IRENE KENNON, beloved wife of the late Mr. Samuel “Ken” Kennon of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital with her family at her side on Monday, August 16, 2010 at the age of 84 years.

Margaret is survived by her children; Terry (Gerry) Kennon of Calgary, Curtis Kennon of Calgary and Linda (Roli) Duquette of St. Albert, as well as 1 granddaughter, Michelle Duquette of St. Albert. She is also survived by her sister Alice Roberts of Lethbridge.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Samuel (Ken) Kennon, mother Grace Housenga, father Rennie Housenga, sister Gertrude Hardie and brother Menno Housenga.

Margaret was born in Coalhurst on November 14, 1925. She was raised on the family farm outside of Iron Springs, completed her education in Lethbridge and went on to serve in the CWAC during WWII.

In 1946, Margaret married Samuel (Ken) Kennon in Lethbridge. Most of her married life was spent in Lethbridge where her main focus was family and friends.

Throughout her life, Margaret shared a special bond with her big sister Alice.

She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, First United Church and Rebekah Lodge.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Margaret touched all of us and our time with her was marvelous. Her quiet courage, strength of spirit and creativity will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Erin Phillips officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

MR. BARRY ALBERT MIDDLETON, of Picture Butte, passed away in Moscow, Idaho, on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the age of 63 years.

Barry was the loving father of Garth Middleton of Edmonton, James (Manna) Middleton of Picture Butte, Russ (Raechelle) Middleton of Ladysmith, B.C., Kristin (Ryan) Alger of Lethbridge and Matthew Middleton of Lethbridge.

He is survived by his father Albert Middleton, siblings; Jack Middleton, Karen Morin, Ruth Middleton and Bill Middleton; 4 grandchildren; Logan, Kaiden, Taia and Izaac Middleton, as well as all of his nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his mother Irene Middleton, Aunt Ruth Middleton and nephew Izaac Middleton.

MILES, ROYSTON "ROY" FRANK
1926-2010
MR. ROYSTON “ROY” FRANK MILES, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Christine Miles of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the age of 83 years.

Roy is survived by his sons Bob (Joyce) and Brian (Leslie), 4 grandchildren Carrie, Troy, Carla and Kyle, as well as 3 great-grandchildren; Sydney, Kieya and Scarlet. He is also survived by his niece Linda (Don) Davis from Everett, Washington.

Roy was predeceased by his wife Christine and daughter Brenda.

He was always active in community affairs. Other than spending time with his family and friends, his best times were those spent playing music and entertaining at dances with the “CAMEOS” orchestra. Roy’s quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by those who knew him.

Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Monday, August 9th, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.

MCCAUGHERTY, MELVIN HUGH
1930-2010
MELVIN HUGH MCCAUGHERTY, son of Gertrude Glori (nee Sandham) and William Hugh McCaugherty, passed away August 4 in St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit.

Mel was born in the Galt Hospital on December 14, 1930, and in 1940 moved with his parents and brother Wesley to live on the D-O Ranch west of Lethbridge, where his grandfather Tom McCaugherty settled in the 1880’s. He attended the University of Alberta in Calgary in 1949 where he met Betty Adeline Domoney and they eloped in 1954. His first teaching post was in Warner. He also taught briefly in Ponoka and Lethbridge, after which he and Betty undertook summer courses in Edmonton to complete their BEd degrees. In 1956, Mel and Betty purchased the ranch, where he lived until 2008. In 1959, Mel began teaching at Coalhurst. He later become principal at McNally School and then in 1972 moved to RI Baker in Coaldale, where he taught until he retired in 1987.

Mel was proud to farm and raise his family in The Bend. His interests included politics and world affairs, sports and poetry. He was admired for his phenomenal memory and breadth of knowledge. He and Betty enjoyed traveling and meeting people, and he has friends around the world. He supported and assisted his daughters in their various interests. After retiring from teaching, he continued working on the farm and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, always proud of their achievements. Mel always expected the best of himself and others, and made every effort to help his family, students and friends accomplish their goals.

He is survived by daughters Dawn, Kristi (Glenn VanBuuren) and Carla, and grandchildren Jesse and Kala VanBuuren. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Betty (nee Domoney), brother Wesley and parents Hugh and Glori McCaugherty.

A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be held at the LOWER LEVEL OF THE KEG, 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, August 10th, at 1:00 P.M. Everyone is invited to share stories and a light lunch will be served.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial tribute may be made to the STARS Foundation, 416 10 Street North Lethbridge, AB, T1H 2C7.

MAYBERRY, MILDRED JOYCE
1933-2010
MILDRED “MILLIE” MAYBERRY died peacefully, Sunday, July 18, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Born Mildred Joyce Shaw March 15, 1933 in Thessalon, ON, the seventh of eight children. Following High School in Burlingon, she graduated from Queen’s University and taught school in New Liskeard, ON.

Millie married Bill in 1954 and moved to Calgary where she did social work. In subsequent moves, she was either a teacher or a social worker and always a social activist; working for peace, good government and justice for all. Opportunities were provided in Valleyview, AB, Kingston, Jamaica, Labrador City and Cornerbrook, NFLD, Sparwood, BC and Fort Macleod, AB.

Predeceased by her parents Clarence and Edith Shaw; sisters Marion and Beth; brother Dude. Survived by her loving and devoted husband Bill; sons Peter (Cher) and Tim (Cheryl) Mayberry; daughter Nancy (Kevin) O’Sullivan; grandchildren Heather, Andrew, Michael, CJ, Justin, Meaghan and Joe and great-granddaughter Olivia; brothers George (Pat), Don (Donna) and Jim (Dorothy) Shaw; sister Claire Lahie and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Yamashita, and the staff at Edith Cavell and unit 5B at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

MILLS, LIZA DORIS
1957-2010
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of LIZA DORIS MILLS at the age of 53 years old, daughter of the late Christopher “Buster” Sr. and the late Eva Mills, she was surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Liza was born and raised on the Blood Indian Reserve. She enjoyed reading, riding horses and spending time with family and friends especially her grandchildren and her sister Evelyn. Liza attended St. Marys Residential School, Levern Elementary School on the Blood Reserve, St. Mary’s Jr. High School in Lethbridge AB, Liza finished the General Studies program at Mount Royal Community College in Calgary AB, she graduated from the program in 1999. Liza had a good sense of humor she enjoyed the company of all she met, she will be especially remembered by her kindness, helpful hand, caring, compassionate ways and willingness to always assist those whom were in need of support.

Liza was dedicated to all endeavors and goals she had, she encouraged her family to always try hard and to help and support each other. Family & friends would often book days of the week or month when it was time for Liza to visit at their home, you could be sure to hear good stories and ensure your home sparkled. Liza would teach the younger girls in the family the fine art of cleaning. She was a patient teacher and would often bring laughter to the young girls. Liza was very organized and particular of the way things should be done, she was not afraid of too much but could scream and scurry when a mouse was in the house. Liza especially enjoyed teasing and black mailing her niece Sonia if she wouldn’t do things for her. Liza had a special place for her oldest granddaughter Haley, there was not a thing she wouldn’t do for her. She also loved to hold and squeeze Cammi and Raiden as they were very chunky babies when they were born.

Liza is survived by her daughter Leslie (Cameron) Tallow, her son's, Garrett(Tricia) Weasel Moccassin and Clark Mills, grandsons Irvin, Raiden, Trice and Tyrus, granddaughters, Haley, Cammi and Casey, sister's Evelyn (Andrew) Wells,Teresa (Erwin) Melting Tallow of the Sikiska Nation, brothers, Franco Mills,Edward Mills, Delbert Mills, Ivory (Donna) Mills, Randy (Doreen) Mills,Liza had numerous nieces, great nieces and great, great nieces,nephews, great nephews and great, great nephews, aunts Emma Red Gun of Siksika Nation, Isabella Spear Chief, Lena Brown Chief Calf and Margaret Hind Man, all of the Blood Reserve, god son Ian Manyfingers. Liza was blessed with having many cousins and good friends, she has a special memory and place in the lives of the people she met, there is always a Liza story that brings laughter and tears of happiness to those who hear the stories.

Liza was predeceased by her sons Baby Mario Water Chief, and Kenny Mills,parents, Buster and Eva Mills, sisters, Loretta Manyfingers, Gloria Shade, Virginia Mills, Mary Rose Manyfingers, Rose Mary Mills and Edith Little Child, , brothers Christopher Mills Jr. and Richard Mills, aunts Annie Brewer, Annette Russell and Annie Shot Both Sides. The family is sorry for missing any names not mentioned, there is a large number of people whom
loved Liza she will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

MACDOWALL, RUSSELL ALBERT

MR. RUSSELL MACDOWALL beloved husband of Mrs. Anna MacDowall of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the age of 51 years.

Besides his loving wife Anna, Russ leaves his precious son Daniel. He will be sadly missed by his loving canine companion, Sami.

Russ is also survived by his sister Jacqueline and her husband Steven; their children and grandchildren and his father in law Ralph Boonov all from Calgary as well as numerous other relatives in Ontario and BC.

Even though Russ was sick for the last 17 years, he maintained a positive attitude and always put the needs of his family before his own. His family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care Russ received from Dr. Frick and the caring staff at the Haig Clinic.

A Graveside service will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 11th Street and Scenic Drive, Lethbridge on Tuesday May 18, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.

Doug, beloved husband of the late Doreen, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge with his daughter Cherri by his side.

He will be sadly missed by his children; Doug (Karen), Janey (Nils) and Cherri; grandchildren Lanny (Stephanie), Tim, Sarah, Samantha, Kylie (Marc) and Brad (Raquel); great-grandchildren; Isabel, Mikayla and Tyrn. He is also survived by his brother Tom, brother in law Larry (Rosemary) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Doug was predeceased by his wonderful wife Doreen, sisters in law Lillian and Mary, and his grandson Dean.

Doug was a loving husband and a caring, devoted father. He cherished his family and friends and will be forever remembered for his honest, caring attitude and his unselfish generosity.
