OKKEN, JOHN
1924-2010
MR. JOHN OKKEN, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Marga Okken of Lethbridge, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the age of 85 years.

John was predeceased by his wife Marga in February 2005.
Left to mourn are his children; Carola (Allan), Jo-Anne (Stephen), John (Nikki), and his grandchildren; Caitlin, Gordon, Lorianne, Jordan and Christopher.

John was born October 24, 1924 in Hoogeveen Drente, Netherlands. He emigrated to Canada after the war.
In 1958 he and Marga were married and they settled in Coalhurst, Alberta where they raised their family.

John loved the outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and gardener.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre for the care and kindness they showed to Dad, including volunteers and family members of other patients who took the time to help with Dad’s care which helped make his stay pleasant and comfortable. Thank you as well to Dr. Greganus and Dr. Musk for all of their help and caring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of John may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, 402-740, 4th Avenue, South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9.

A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jason Anderson officiating.

May 31, 1925 - April 23, 2010
MRS. GERRITJE “GERRIE” OOSTLANDER, beloved wife of the late Mr. Adrianus “Adrian” Oostlander of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the age of 84 years.

Gerrie was born Gerritje Zwoferink in Rijssen, Holland, one of six children, 5 girls and one boy.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Adrian (Adrianus) in November 2008. She is survived by 3 children, daughter Gerda (Gary) Van Voorst of Lethbridge, son Adrian John Oostlander of Vauxhall and son Darcy (Tracey) Oostlander of Airdrie. 3 Grandchildren Doug (Shanon) Van Voorst of Calgary, Debi (Mike) Mackie of Campbell River, BC and Lucas Oostlander of Airdrie, 3 Great Grandchildren Samantha Van Voorst, Landon and Raeya Mackie.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Monday, April 26, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

OKART, DOROTHEA "DORIS"
1927-2010
MRS. DOROTHEA “DORIS” OKART, beloved wife of Mr. Robert Okart of Coaldale, passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the age of 82 years.

Doris is survived by her loving husband Robert, daughters, Monika (Dennis) Walshe of Cranbrook, B.C., Cindy (Louis) Brandsma of Lethbridge, Carolynn Rempel (Steve Dahl) of Carmangay and Robby (Garth) Savilow, along with 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Marga and Wilma of Germany.
Doris was predeceased by her parents August and Marta Bertram, brother Achim Bertram and granddaughter Lindsay Brandsma.

Robert and Doris were married December 11, 1946 in Hanover, Germany and spent 62 happy years together. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 where they resided in Coaldale until Doris’s passing.

Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a compassionate, thoughtful and honourable woman who loved her family and took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris had a wonderful personality with a kind and generous heart. She also had a unique sense of humour and a quick wit.
Regardless of the situation, Mom had a genuine smile and twinkle in her eye. She never spoke an unkind word of anyone.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive, South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 7:00-8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2006 – 20th Street Coaldale, AB, on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Folker Stanke officiating.

Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

CASEY OVERES
1937-2009
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father and grandfather, CASEY OVERES, who passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre in Lethbridge at the age of 72 years.

Casey was born in de Hoof, Holland on May 25, 1937. He was the third youngest of 13 children born to Simon and Catharina Overes. In 1952 he immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in the Picture Butte area. In 1964 he met the love of his life Margaret Elfring, whom he eventually married on August 20, 1966. They moved to Lethbridge where together they raised three sons; Doug, Scott and Darren.
Casey was a Journeyman Partsman and began his career with Hepp’s Auto Wreckers in 1956. He eventually became part owner and manager of Hepp’s in 1974 until his retirement in 1998. Casey was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. Aside from his love of cars, Casey was a skilled craftsman and blacksmith making numerous projects, most notably his clock, sundial, cannon and Gatling gun. His passion for metal working is only surpassed by his devotion and love for his family, especially his two granddaughters who affectionately called him “Papa”.

In the days leading up to his passing, Casey was surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret, their sons Doug (Dione) of Lethbridge, Scott of Calgary and Darren of Okotoks and his two granddaughters Victoria and Jaida of Calgary. He also leaves behind his brothers William (Martha) Overes, Hubert (Marj) Overes, sisters Corry Ham, Truus (Martin) Kleijn, Agatha (Hank) Aben and Audrey (Don) Muyers, sister-in-law Maria Overes and Pietje Overes; as well as his extended family the Elfrings, Anne (Leo) Bergen-Henegouwen, Alice Willetts, Maria (Derald) Geldreich, Dienie (Les) Vasseur, Herman (Carla) Elfring, Jake Elfring, Ben (Rhea) Elfring and Corrie (Berny) Jones as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Catharina Overes, mother and father-in-law Bernard and Margaret Elfring, brothers Simon Overes, Peter Overes, Ben Overes,

John Overes, Jake Owens and sister Grace Suyker, brother-in-law Bill Willetts, Art Suyker and John Ham as well as sister-in-law Harriet Elfring.

Prayers and Tributes will be said at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13TH Street North, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant. Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Michael's Foundation, Palliative Care Unit, 1400 - 9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2405-12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1K 0P4.

1948 - 2009
ISOBEL MARY OOSTLANDER, beloved wife of Jacobus Nicolaas Oostlander of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the age of 60 years. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her daughters, Tammy Lynn Oostlander of Coaldale, AB and Penny Dawn (Micheal) Marr of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, Saphire, Jacqueline, Gemma, Jayne and Joshua. She is also survived by; three sisters and one brother, Diane, Yolande, Denise and John Paul and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by parents John and Gemma Kerleroux. Isobel was born September 4, 1948 in Drumheller, AB, and raised in Calgary, AB. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of ANA MARIA H. OSEJO announces her passing on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the age of 103 years. Ana Maria was born on March 22, 1904 in Managua, Nicaragua. She enjoyed reading, telling stories, travelling, camping and playing Chinese checkers with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Francisco (Sonia) Osejo, Mirna (Gilberto) Vargas, Sylvia Osejo and Alfredo (Ana) Osejo, grandchildren; Mario (Nadine) Osejo, Gilberto (Eleonor) Vargas, Francisco, Javier (Penny) Osejo, Ana Sabina (Calvin) Osejo, Ana Maria Osejo (Cole) Boogaart, Fausto Osejo and Maria del Mar Osejo and her great grandchildren; Eric, Maria, Marissa, Marcela, Leonor, Giovanni, Saclina, Jordan, Giselle, Bianca and Brittany. She is also survived by her sisters Melida and Maria Francisca and her brothers Jose, Luis, Andres, Adolfo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Andres and Juana de la Cruz, husband Fausto Alfredo, two daughters Raisa and Dora Maria as well as one granddaughter Myrna Isabel. Ana Maria will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. NILA OLSON
1937 - 2008
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to NILA ROSEMOND OLSON. Nila passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Nila was born on March 5, 1937 in Lethbridge, raised in Warner and spent her working years at various locations in the U.S.A. Nila was a dynamic, headstrong spirit with a great flair for life itself. Her love of animals and concern for animal welfare carried her on throughout her life. Nila is survived by two wonderful and caring children; son Robert McCrossin and daughter Bonnie Wetmore as well as two grandchildren Patrick and Sarah. Nila was predeceased by her husband Gerald Olson and parents Andrew and Helen Rietz. A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to an animal charity of their choice.

MRS. MELVA MARY OLD SHOES - HEALY of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Joe Old Shoes, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 25, 2008 at the age of 55 years. Besides her loving husband of 39 years Joe, she is survived by her children; Johanna (Ben), Crystal (Lawrence) and Perry (Landy), adopted daughter Darlene Davis, grandchildren; Dwight, Mark, Western, Ariel, Avery, Nicholas, Shanel, Lane and twins Amber and Aden, great granddaughter Jorden, god son Kyle Old Shoes-Vielle and god daughter Amanda Gail Old Shoes. She is also survived by numerous brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Wake Service will be held at CHIEF MOUNTAIN FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moses Lake on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held at CHIEF MOUNTAIN FUNERAL CHAPEL on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Archdeacon Sidney Black officiating. Interment to follow at St. Paul's Cemetery.

TONY ORLINSKI
2007
On December 18, 2007 I lost my husband and my bestest friend, Tony Orlinski. Tony is survived by his wife Shirley, mother-in-law Mary, 3 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his pet cat Muffin. Thank you to the ambulance and rescue crew who so desperately tried to save Tony's life. To the Dr.'s and nurses at the Regional Hospital, the city Police and the Handi-Bus service. A special thank-you to Bev Gwilliam, my home care provider who was with me through out the whole time. Thanks to Pat and Ed who came to my rescue the next morning. Thank you to Doug Hazuda and Ilona Bengry from Cornerstone Funeral Home for your wonderful service. Cremation has taken place.
