Boessenkool, Gerry

GERRY BOESSENKOOL, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late May Boessenkool, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Friday, April 7, 2023 at the age of 86 years. 

Mr. Gerry Boessenkool passed away peacefully and suddenly at the Chinook Regional Hospital on April 7,2023.

Born on January 17, 1937 in Dedemsvaart, Holland. He immigrated to Canada in 1954.

Gerry married May Sawa in November of 1960. They were married for 50 years until her passing in August 2011. They had 3 children: Greg, Lorraine and Cindy. Gerry lost his only son Greg in 2017.

Gerry's jobs included, milk man, semi truck driver hauling petro, and salesperson for a cleaning supply company (GH Wood). Gerry and his wife May started their own cleaning company, holding the cleaning contract for the 18th Air Defense Regiment here in Lethbridge, when he retired in 1999.

Gerry was a fine musician right up until his passing. He played his keyboard, and accordion for many crowds, young and old alike. This was his one true passion. He kept his keyboard set up in his room at the Heritage Lodge so he could play everyday, and play he did. He performed in many of the senior residences here in Lethbridge as well as surrounding communities. His wife would come to listen to him along with their dog Kita.

Gerry was predeceased by his wife May in 2011, son Greg in 2017, mother Henny Stocker/Boessenkool in 1990, his father Geert Boessenkool in 1945, 6 siblings and numerous in-laws.

He is survived by his children, Lorraine (Ken) and Cindy. He is also survived by his sister and brothers: Tine, Johnny (Ruth), Harry (Joanne). He is also survived by his grandchildren Devon and Levi. He has many nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by many family members and a very special lady, Lucy Hurst.

A Celebration of Gerry's Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. with Patrick Siedlecki officiating. The Celebration of Life will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Gerry's obituary on the Cornerstone website.
