Ed was born in Halifax January 29, 1942. He enlisted into the Canadian army in 1960 and was serving when he incurred a serious ankle injury that caused him to be discharged. His limb was eventually amputated in 2013.

On June 21, 1961, he met the love of his life, Judith Ann McCarthy. They were married Feb 21, 1962 and moved to Egerton in Pictou County, N.S.

Ed did many things including log splitting at Hughie Parks Mill, selling Singer sewing machines and then worked for several years at Addressograph Multigraph in Halifax as a salesman.

In 1973 they packed up their four kids with a grand in their pocket, without a job to go to and flew out West to Calgary. When the Addressograph Multigraph manager, Mike Kidd, heard of Ed leaving his job, he admired Ed's spunk and said he needed a man like that on his team and hired him on the spot. Ed didn't let him down sold and repaired many machines for the company. He was transferred to Lethbridge in 1974.

In 1975 Ed became a member of the Lethbridge Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was an active member holding many positions until his ill health in 2010.

When Addressograph Multigraph closed out Ed received a grant from Veteran's Affairs to attend the University of Lethbridge and became a teacher, the job he loved best. He received his Master's degree four years later at Gonzaga University.

Ed taught classes in Lethbridge and Pincher Creek for the Lethbridge Community College for many years and on the Blood Reserve for eight years.

He was active in his community, becoming involved with the Coalhurst Town Council and later served as the Mayor for one term. Ed was a member of AADAC (Alberta Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council) and enjoyed his membership with the Coalhurst Legion. Ed loved reading, fishing, golfing, doing delicate scroll-saw wood working and spent many waking hours watching old John Wayne western movies on TV.

Throughout his life Ed always suffered serious health issues and many times came close to death however cancer was the final cause of his death.

The breath God gave him is back with God and Ed will now rest peacefully until Jesus returns to claim His own.
