Cliff was born on November 26, 1936, in Swift Current Saskatchewan, the seventh child of Peter & Katherine Penner. In his early years, they moved from Swift Current to Brooks, Alberta then the family eventually settled in a small home in Calgary. Cliff was a shy, quiet and caring person, he was brought up in a stable Christian home. As he grew, he helped his mom in the garden. Cliff loved cars and got his driver’s license when he was 16. His first car was a 1942 Mercury. He worked up north for a while saving money to buy his first home, back in Calgary. He worked in different factories and also worked in his brother in-law’s garage in Keoma, Alberta. Eventually he was employed with the Calgary School Board where he worked for many years as a Head Caretaker.

He was a proud man and knew how to save money and raise a wonderful family of his own. He was married to Syliva and they had five children, Steve, Leslie, Sharon, Roy, and Eddie. They are his pride and joy! He has five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In the middle of his life, he met a very special lady, Marion, and they have been together for 35 plus years. Cliff considered himself to be a lucky man to meet her when he really needed someone in his life. They did lots of traveling in earlier years, Hawaii, Vegas, Florida, Mexico, California, etc… they enjoyed every trip and have many pictures to prove it. Cliff retired at 65 and moved to the town of Raymond, Alberta, where they settled into their retirement home nicely and he enjoyed doing lots of renovations on the house and tinkering with his vehicles. During the summers, they would go on road trips around to see different family members, spending as much time visiting with them as they could. They also enjoyed playing bingo, camped as often as they wanted, listened to 50’s music, watched the news and road their bicycles together.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at Cliff and Marion’s home in Raymond on Thursday, October 16th, 2025.
