ERNEST RUDOLPH HENDRICKS, better known as “Ernie”, beloved husband of Susan Hendricks (née Hudson) of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully and with his family by his side, on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, at the age of 83.

He is the loving father of Jeremy (Eve) Hendricks of Lethbridge, Jason (Sarah) Carrier of Lethbridge, and Brad (Kelley) Carrier of Lethbridge. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he loved, cherished and supported with his whole heart and soul: Devan Carrier, Tanisha Carrier, Tye Carrier, Kale Carrier and Piper Hendricks.

Ernie is also survived by his brother Jake (Annette) Hendricks, twin brother Ed (Helen) Hendricks, brother Dave (Elvira) Hendricks, and sisters Nancy Hendricks and Ruth (John) Domaschenko. He also has numerous nieces and nephews on both his side, and Susan’s, that he loved so very dearly.

Ernie was predeceased by his mother and father, Jacob and Annie Hendricks.

Ernie was born in Coaldale, Alberta, on January 25th 1942, to Jacob and Annie Hendricks. Ernie grew up on a farm south of Grassy Lake, Alberta, and attended Chamberlain School there. He graduated from the AMHS in Coaldale, Alberta, and then attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where he graduated with a pharmacy degree.

Ernie moved to Lethbridge in 1968 to start his career as a Pharmacist. He spent his career employed at various pharmacies such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Lakeview Pharmacy, as well as Canadian Wholesale Pharmacy, as his last position before retirement. Canadian Wholesale Pharmacy was very near and dear to his heart as he was the lead in the opening of the new pharmacy, and managed it for many years.

Ernie had many interests. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, deep sea fishing, camping and travelling to a lot of amazing destinations with Susan, Ed and Helen. A lot of his hobbies were shared with his twin brother Ed, as well as with his best friend since grade 10, Bill Martens.

Ernie was an avid reader, and loved western books as well as non fiction adventure stories. He loved playing board games and specifically UNO with his grandkids, and also spent of lot of time working on some of the hardest puzzles out there. He loved spending so much time with his grandchildren, going on walks with his walking stick to the pond, playing in the shed, sleepovers, as well as a big dedication to attending their sports games, even with his physical struggles.

Ernie also loved to sit in his wheel chair on the deck, watching birds, while making his walking sticks and bird houses.

Ernie loved his home and his community, and was part of a Tuesday night Crib Club with many neighbours who had become friends. He loved them all. He was an extremely kind and caring man, and deeply loved by everyone who had the honour of knowing him.

Ernie will be sorely missed by many, but his spirit, kindness and generosity will live on through all of our memories, and he will continue to always be loved, and never be forgotten.

He loved and was loved by many.

According to Ernie’s wishes, there will only be a small private immediate gathering to celebrate his life.
