Hyder, Martin

MARTIN HYDER, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mary Hyder, passed away at home on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the age of 80 years.

MARTIN LAMONT HYDER, beloved husband of Mary Hyder (nee Currie) passed away at home Monday, March 21, 2022.

Besides Mary, Marty is survived by his loving sons: Keith (Kathy), Stewart, Keith's son Alex, and step-grandchildren: Eric, Richard, Ben, and Michelle; sister-in-law Gale Smook (Ray), and brother-in-law Bill Currie (Donna); along with several loving nieces and nephews from the Hyder, Currie and Mitchell families.

Martin was predeceased by his loving daughter Susan Marie, father Nicholas Hyder, mother Satel "Sanda" Hyder, Step-mother Margaret Hyder, brother Edward (Lil), sister Eunice, and Martin's twin sister Marion (John) Banas, brothers-in-law: Jim (Lyla) Mitchell, and Larry "Hap" (Aggie) Mitchell.

Born in Westlock, Alberta, and raised in Clyde, Alberta, Marty had a passion for water-skiing and cars. As he grew up, working on vehicles became a life-long desire, so he moved to Edmonton where he pursued training in Auto-Body Mechanics, did his apprenticeships, and eventually moved to Lethbridge. In time, he started his own "Martin's Select Auto-Body". He loved working on specialty cars, tinkering and painting. After a few years Marty worked for Skyline Travel Center doing repairs as needed, selling parts, and helping to sell RV's. He retired in 2012.

From early ages, Susan, Keith, and Stewart, have been the highlight of Marty's life, along with Mary, of course! He loved camping and fishing with his family and all the fun they had. He and Susan enjoyed Friendship Series. He loved teaching the boys carpenter and auto repair skills, working with them in the garage.

Marty was such a friendly person with a loving and giving heart. He volunteered with Inclusion Lethbridge, (formerly the Lethbridge Association of Community Living,) on the board, worked bingos for the association, being Santa etc. He loved being a cub leader with Cubs and Scouts, Neighborhood Watch and Block Parent, and anywhere else he was needed. He loved Family Reunions and made sure there were lots of snacks, food and drinks, although all attending contributed. He would never want anyone to go short!

In Marty's tough times of late, he still would try to repair cars in the garage - wearing his Oxygen. He loved to cook and watched lots of cooking shows, car repairs shows and enjoyed the Gaither Vocal Band and the Lawrence Welk Show, with Mary. Marty would tell us all that he had a most wonderful life.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, because of Marty and Mary's love and commitment to persons living with developmental disabilities, memorial tributes may be made to Inclusion Lethbridge, 527 - 6 Street S. Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2E1

A Celebration of Martin's Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. with Patrick Siedlecki officiating. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed via Martin's obituary on the Cornerstone website.
