EDWARD NIEUWENHUIS went to be with his Lord in the afternoon of Sunday, May 14, 2023. After a courageous three-year battle with cancer, he passed peacefully at the age of 61, surrounded by family and friends. His faith in his Heavenly Father only grew stronger through his final struggle.

He was loved by his wife of 32 years, Brenda (née Van Milligen) Nieuwenhuis, his daughter Mirielle Hope and his son Caleb. He is also survived by his siblings Julie (Hank) DeJager, Sid (Margaret) Nieuwenhuis, Lambert (Deborah) Nieuwenhuis, Betty (Evert) Van de Pol, Dave (Sharon) Nieuwenhuis, Mary-Ann (Henk-John) Kuipers, Brenda's mom, dad, brother, and sister, as well as nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his infant sister and his parents John and Ann Nieuwenhuis.

Ed was born, raised, and lived most of his life in Lethbridge. From as early as he could remember he wanted to drive semi-trucks and was able to make that dream a reality. He also worked as a baker, a farmer, a partsman, a delivery man, and most importantly to him, a husband and father. He married the love of his life, Brenda, in 1990, and they were blessed with Mirielle in 2001 and Caleb in 2002. Ed, Brenda, and Mirielle spent a year working on Brenda's parents' farm in Nova Scotia before moving back to Lethbridge in 2002. He was generous with his time and strived to show the Lord's love through his actions, helping friends and family both inside and outside the church whenever he could. He served in the church for much of his life, including his time on the tech committee and as a deacon. He also loved spending time with his family, gathering for soup and buns on Sundays or planning weekend camping trips at every possible opportunity. He loved deeply and was deeply loved. We will miss him so.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tom Van Milligen officiating.

Ed will be laid to rest in a private Family Graveside Service in Mountain View Cemetery.

In memory of Ed and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca) and/or the Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge (interfaithfoodbank.ca)
