Doris was born and raised in Lethbridge, where she worked at the Bank of Montreal after high school and was the proprietor of Margo Ladies Wear through the 1950's. She then moved on to caring for her family, enjoying her friends and serving her community. Doris lived her life with gusto, and was first in line to help out, lend a hand or offer an opinion and a hug.

Doris loved to volunteer her time and energy to a wide variety of organizations, from the Allied Arts Council to the Fort Whoop Up Interpretative Society. She was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Lethbridge in 1945, and a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Doris loved listening to music, watching golf, the theatre, most people and a good laugh.

Doris is survived by Sandra Balcovske (Greg Morrison) and Marcia (Don) Taylor, as well as by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Herb Balcovske, her parents, Chris and Linda Gibson, her brother Fred Gibson and niece Leah Goodman.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael's Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion.

A Funeral Service will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH - 411 11th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Wednesday, September 21st at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

So many wonderful memories to share of Doris, sipping martinis at Christmas, high tea at the King Eddy, bust a gut laughing at life! Over all, one hell of Grand Dame and a gift to us to have known her..

What wonderful memories we have of Doris. She was a founding member of the Friendship Force Club ,the first club in Canada. We will remember the many hugs given by her to visitors from around the world. My strongest memory was an inbound exchange from Japan, as the group was leaving Lethbridge Airport, tears and hugs, but Doris went one step further with her hugs, and hugged every passenger getting on the plane. You changed our tears to laughter. Doris you were a joy to know. Barbara and John.
