GORDON BARTEL, of Lethbridge, loving husband of Bethany Bartel, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 36 years.
Gordon was born on October 12, 1986, in Lethbridge, Alberta, the firstborn to Ed and Leona Bartel. He dedicated his life to Christ at a young age on April 25, 1993, and was baptized as a teenager at Coaldale MB Church. His faith remained central throughout his life. Gordon developed a love for music at an early age, using his gifts in church for many years with guitar and vocals. Gordon brought much joy and laughter into his home by playing guitar, piano, and singing with his children. In addition to music, Gordon enjoyed many sports (especially hockey), motorcycle trips with friends and family, and dominating at foosball, a skill he perfected during his year at Bethany Bible College.
Gordon was always strong academically and aspired to become an accountant from an early age. While working toward this goal, the Lord spared his life after a serious car accident in 2007. After obtaining his Management Degree from the University of Lethbridge in 2009, he moved to Red Deer to begin articling at BDO. It was during this time in 2010 that Gordon and Bethany began their relationship while he was in Red Deer, and she studied at the U of L. After their engagement in 2011, Gordon was transferred to BDO in Lethbridge.
Gordon and Bethany were married on May 20, 2012. Shortly after, Gordon earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 2013, and later worked as the Financial Controller at Varsteel in Lethbridge from 2015 until his passing. Gordon and Bethany had settled into their home in Lethbridge originally built by Gordon's father, where they completed their family of six, and were raising their children together. Always an active and engaged father, he took much pride and joy in his children. Together they enjoyed music, hockey, skating, bike rides, playing games and taking many family trips.
Besides his loving wife Bethany, he is survived by his four young children, Joshua (7), Tyler (5), Leah (2) and Dylan (6 mos.); his mother Leona Bartel of Lethbridge, siblings Ryan (Jenessa) Bartel of Lethbridge and their children Brayden, Kayleigh, and Regan; Kelly (Brook) Burick of Swan River and their daughter Raya; and Tracy (Daniel) Hargraves of Saskatoon; grandparents Edward E. and Katherine Bartel of Lethbridge, as well as in-laws Will and Margarete Klassen, siblings in-law Emily Klassen, and Matthew (Trudy) Naugler Klassen and their sons Aaron and Jesse, all of Vancouver. Gordon is pre-deceased by his father Edward G. Bartel, and grandparents David and Mary Hubert.
We will always remember Gordon as a patient, selfless, reliable, thoughtful, and loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He was very content and easy going and could always be counted on for timely humor or sound advice. Although Gordon's passing was unexpected and tragic, we are left with many fond memories of him, and many of his traits are evident in his children. We look forward to being reunited with him in glory one day.
