MARY BEARD (Maria Dimitra Kokinos), passed away peacefully at the Milk River Health Centre, at the age of 103 years.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Ralph, parents, James & Edna Red, one sister and two brothers. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Ruth (Loyal Orcutt) and many far-flung nieces and nephews as a very special aunt. She is especially remembered as a second "mother" by all of the Beard nephews who spent summers at the farm.
A longtime resident of Milk River, Mary was involved in the family farm and ranch activities, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Royal Purple, Milk River Seniors Organization and American Legion Auxiliary Border Unit #73. An avid gardener, she preserved the bounty from her gardens and took pride in her roses. Family, friends and hired men all enjoyed her roast beef dinners and rhubarb pies. There was always room for an extra place at the table. Mary approached life with a strong will and an unmatched determination; always willing to pitch in and lend a hand when needed. Once she learned to drive, there was no stopping her and she drove until her 93rd year. If there was an event or occasion out of town, Mary could always be counted on to drive a carload of friends to wherever it was.
Her interests were varied and wide. She loved cooking, gardening, canning and pickling, reading and crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, pursuing genealogy, raising German Shepherd dogs and playing the piano, especially the music of the Big Band era.
Thank you to Dr. Lewke-Bogle, Dr. Krog and Dr. Ovwasa for all of the care given to Mary. The family also thanks the nurses, HCA's and support staff at MRLTC. The care Mary received was exceptional.
Memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to the Milk River Health Centre, PO Box 90, Milk River, AB, T0K 1M0 or, honouring Mary's love of companion animals, to a local animal rescue society or Humane Society of one's choice.
In accordance with Mary's wishes, no formal service will take place.
The song is ended, but the melody lingers on…

Mary was a large part of my life, she was the main communicator between all the Beard family members. She was always happy to see me the many summers I spent in Milk River working for my Uncle Ralph out on the homestead. We share a love for dogs and always had canine conversations. She will be missed by all who had the luck of being part of her life. RIP My Aunt Mary.
Having spent many summers in the 50's and 60's working on the farm plus many visits before and after I am saddened by Mary's passing. She was a treasure and an anchor in our family. May She Rest in Everlasting Peace.
Dear Ruth Marie, Sending you love and hugs during this sad time, though Aunt Mary (Maria) lived a long, wonderful life, she still will be missed and thought of with love...I am so glad she was in my life since I was about 17...and in my children and mother's life also...because of Wally, my husband, she became part of our history..may she rest in Peace ....now united with your Father..
Our condolences to Ruthie and Loyal. Such a special lady she was, and we both smile when we think of her. Heaven has another angel.
It was a honor Ruth, to be able to be one of your mom's caregivers over the last five years She was an amazing lady. I watched her read Mike Drew's book from cover to cover, watch all sorts of movies, watch people and staff and I'm sure she thought we were all nuts. She rode on the hospital float a couple times with me ,the last time when she was 100. She was kind and caring and she will be truly missed. I am thankful I was able to get to know her Bless you and take care.
My deepest sympathies at the passing of your mom, she was truly a colourful personality, even these last couple of years. Her eyes said more than most people do with their voices. She will be missed and you, Ruth, were an amazing example of love in action as you cried and loved her all her days. Bless you
All my childhood memories growing up spending summers in Milk River contained not only Grandpa and Grandma Beard but you too, Aunt Mary. You have earned your rest and many stars in your crown. Sending love to you, Ruth and Loyal.?
Ruth, my thoughts are with you at this time. Many memories of your mom at my mom's house and many laughs!
