Ben began his agriculture schooling in Holland and served two years of duty in the Dutch Air Force before coming to Canada in 1956, where he took on a few jobs. His lifelong dream was to one day own his own farm. He returned to Holland and soon met his beautiful wife whom he married in 1960. After their marriage, they immigrated to Canada where they began their life and family together. In 1965, Ben and Sini bought their farm in Coaldale and worked hard to provide for his family until 1996, when he sold the farm and retired in the Town of Coaldale. Ben was a faithful member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus and the church choir. He had many hobbies including gardening, stained glass, painting and crossword puzzles. Most of all, Ben cherished his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. “Opa” will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Dear family of Ben, Although this is, of course, a little late, I just wanted to pay my respects, on behalf of my family, to Ben, Sini and all of you. Ben was an uncle of mine and I know very little about him. My mother, Resie, was his youngest sister, of 13 children, while he was the second eldest son. In several ways I think they were perhaps quite far apart. Hopefully, our families can somehow grow a little closer in the future. Warm regards, Jeroen
