Betty is survived by her children Barbara (Bohdan), Brian (Meladean), David, and Julie (Chris), and granddaughters Stephania, Claire, and Lily. She is also survived by her brother Neil and sisters Jean and Heather in Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Agnes and David (Ray) Robertson, her sisters Helen, Marjorie, Barbara, Sharon, Andrea, and brothers Bob and Jim.
The third of eleven children, Betty was born in Trenton, Ontario on January 2, 1929. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto, Betty began her nursing career in California. She was a full-time homemaker when her children were young, then returned to nursing after the family moved to Lethbridge in 1968.
A devoted Calgary Flames fan and avid golfer, Betty was a long-time member at Magrath Golf Club. She also participated in the Moonlight Run in Indian Battle Park until age 74, and skated regularly at local arenas until age 89. Betty loved the outdoors and often visited Waterton Lakes National Park. She also enjoyed fine dining and attending opera in Calgary and ballet in Toronto.
From an early age, Betty loved to read and instilled that love in her children. She was two-term member of the Lethbridge Public Library Board (1987-93), and a founding and two-term member of the Chinook Arch Regional Library Board (1992-98). She was also a founding member of the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library and later the Friends of Chinook Arch. Betty was absolutely thrilled in 2007 when the Coalhurst Public Library joined Chinook Arch, fulfilling her personal dream of having the very best library services available to all residents of southwestern Alberta.
Betty was also an avid knitter, an honorary lifetime member at the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, a Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization member for many years, and a longtime volunteer at Assumption Church and the Italian Club. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Dumebi Anthony for her wise and compassionate care, and to Nancy Hamilton for her many kindnesses to Betty throughout her life, especially during the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Chinook Arch Regional Library.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at a later date.

Barb, Brian, Dave, Julie. We just heard of the passing of your mother; we are very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of her over all those years we lived not far from each other on the Northside. Your home, almost every day, was a stop either to & from school. She always made me feel as if I was one of her own children. I have many fond memories of her & those good old days. Our thoughts & prayers are with you; may God guide you as you mourn your loss.
My deepest condolences to Betty’s family, friends and colleagues. She was a wonderful nurse who gave herself to her many patients. She brought comfort and loving support to each and every one of them. She demonstrated her compassion and knowledge to staff who worked along side her. The world needs more nurses like Betty. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Barb, Brian, Dave, Julie and to each of your family members; We were deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your dear Mum, Betty. She blessed so many people with her thoughtfulness and kindness. Betty brought so much joy to the lives of her family, friends and colleagues. We all enjoyed the cookies she baked. Her smile was so full of warmth each time she happened to pop out in the backyard to share them with us after school or on weekends during our Northside neighbourhood activities. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies - from our family to you and the entire Maciura family. Dale & Bev Ptycia, Thomas & Tiffany + Henry Ptycia, Kate & Matthew + baby Jack Wood, and James Ptycia & Jessica Ozorak. May the stars carry your sadness away, May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, May hope forever wipe away your tears, And, above all, may silence make you strong. Chief Dan George
Our sincere condolences to all Betty's family members. It was always a pleasure to share the golf course and skating rinks with Betty. She was always cheerful and having fun. Sincerely Bill & Cheryl Sterling.
