JOSEPHINE BIER (née Ment), of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Ewald Bier, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Josie or Joop as she was known, was born outside of Rotterdam in 1939. She, along with her parents and 5 siblings, came to Canada in 1956; it took one week by ship and one week by train to arrive in Lethbridge. In 1958, she married Ewald, who has since predeceased her, along with her twin brother Cor Ment, sister Betty Woelders and grandson William Bier. She was encircled in love by her family: Bill (Joanmarie) Bier, James (Christine) Bier, Elizabeth Bier-Arneson, Rodger (Janet) Bier; brothers Dirk Ment, Layne (Celeste) Ment, and Johnny (Susan) Ment. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a hardworking woman, starting at age 14 in a grocery store, who loved music, singing and being outdoors. Whether she was working in the beet fields, gardens, or her lovely flower beds, she was happy, but we all know she enjoyed working with flowers the most.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 12:00 Noon with Pat Siedlecki officiating.

Josephine will be laid to rest next to her husband Ewald in Mountain View Cemetery.

We are so very sorry to hear of Aunt Josephine’s passing, I have such precious memories of her kindness and humour. Bill, Jamie, Elizabeth and Roger, my heart is going out to you and your families. When I had chances to talk with Aunt Jo, she always shared what you were up to with such pride. Love to all of you, I wish I could have made it today to see all of you.

I loved you Jo, you were such a very special person in my life and seemed to make the whole world brighter whenever you and your smile were there. You did a fantastic job of raising your family and at the same time helping any and all who needed help. Rest easy my soul sister, you did good and have left a wonderful mark on many lives. I miss you
