Brian Lagace

1951 - 2026

Send a Tribute

My Dad, BRIAN LAGACE, passed away holding my hand on July 4, 2026. During his final days he was surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Manitoba on March 6, 1951, to Monique Lagace and was later joined by 5 younger siblings. Much of his time growing up was spent with his Grandma Lagace on the family farm, surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. He often shared fond memories of these times on the farm.

After being honorably released from the navy, he eventually found his way to Lethbridge, where he met my mom and where he made his home. What I remember most about my dad growing up was that he had many hobbies, from squash, cycling, tennis, hockey, running, karate, body building, archery, and more. What amazed me though is how hard he worked at each of these, and how he somehow always managed to do well at any sport he chose to try. He truly cherished meeting new friends and becoming part of each community of sport. He loved being part of the Lethbridge tennis club, taka karate, headwinds cycling, and bow-benders archery. Coaching and sharing his love of game and sport with anyone who was interested was another part of dad, he was always giving and volunteering his time to others. Some of his accomplishments include a black belt, and national medals in archery.

Dad seemed to “know everyone” and we would often joke about this. He was the kind of person that seemed to make friends and build relationships wherever he went. One of the things I appreciated the most about him was his tireless ability to be my number one, and eventually my kids’ number one fan. He would take me every weekend to swim meets, and in the off season spend his nights at Nicholas Sheran pool with me. As my kids grew, you would always find him at the rink taking the kids to practice or at any activity the kids did. Family was absolutely something he cherished.

Dad loved trains… He built many friendships and took a special pride in being an engineer on the railway. A special moment for him was being able to take the Olympic torch across the high-level bridge.

Music was something special for dad. He played guitar and piano and loved to sing. He shared this love of music with his grandson Ryan, spending countless hours taking him to lessons. Dad also loved his music get togethers with friends.

Brian is survived by his daughter Danielle (J.P.) Tone; his grandchildren Ryan (Venus) Tone, Charlie Tone, and Emmerson Tone; his sisters Darlene (John) Crocker, Maryann (Len) Peters, and Cathy Halushka; his sister-in-law Anita (Dave) Field; niece Allise (Anthony) McPherson; nephew Andrew (Brittany) Field; and very special friends Jamie and Janessa Briehault; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother Monique Lagace; sister Donna Lee Haluska; and brother Gordie Haluska.

In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to call and tell your loved ones how special they are.
