JANET RUTH CULHAM, (nee MacLean), passed away peacefully at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the age of 95 years.
Ruth is survived by her son Mac Culham and daughter Allison (Barry) Adams; and grandsons Ross and Malcolm (Mallory) Adams and John and Richard Culham, as well as dear nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jack, sisters Dorothy and Mary, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Ruth was born August 12, 1923 in Saskatoon. She was always proud of her home province but lived most of her life in Edmonton which she also loved.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Ruth was an extremely social person and loved being with people, providing frequent hospitality to family and friends. She and Jack shared many interests including dancing, travel, photography and the outdoors. The cottage at Lac La Biche was a favorite family gathering place.
Ruth graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Although she never worked outside the home, she used her education in numerous volunteer roles and interests. She provided a wide range of services in her community including hospital visitation, delivering meals on wheels, mounting early recycling initiatives, volunteering at the Walter Dale Playhouse as well as being an active member in PEO, University Women's club and the United Church.
In later years, Ruth faced her declining health with courage and dignity, never complaining. She retained her interest in music, reading, nature and the out of doors, up to her very last day. She will be deeply missed.
Ruth's family wish to extend heartfelt thanks for the loving care provided by her companions Monica and Janine and by staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, especially in her last days.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Steve Bateman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to your local Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Culham's family and friends. For my entire childhood Mr. & Mrs. Culham were my summer next door neighbours on Mission Beach. Alison, Barry, Ross and Malcolm we are thinking of you during this very difficult time. This summer we will toast your Mom at a Happy Hour and salute her one last time.
Dear Allison and Barry, We consider ourselves lucky to have known Ruth as a friend and neighbour. We loved Ruth for her kindness, loveliness and for not letting pain better her. Many people here are saddened by her passing. We're grateful that she was able to spend her last year surrounded by family; loved and cared for by you both. Take care of yourselves. Love, Helen and Denis.
Mrs. Culham was a beautiful, kind, gentle and elegant lady. We appreciate very much Mrs. Culham's long time support of our business. We will always remember her beautiful smile and snow white shinny hair. Allison, sorry for your loss. Mrs. Culham is in a good place now no more suffering of pain. Cecilia & Ann
Allison and family, I am very sorry to learn of the passing of your mother. I have very fond memories of skating with her (and you) in Edmonton. I miss the days of the Wednesday Afternoon Ladies Skating Club. With love, Peggy
I remember how you enjoyed Christmases with Alli, Barry, and boys. Your body may've slowed down and painfully, but you never let it show. You were always elegantly dressed and coifed, and retained a bright and witty mind. Nice to think of you pain-free dancing in heaven!
Ruth was an intelligent, classy and elegant lady with great taste. She was always informed, easy to talk to and had a great sense of humour. Christmas visits were always special. She will be much missed by our family and we have happy memories of pub visits with her and Jack. Thank-you Ruth and God bless.
Ruth was a very special lady and her home was always a welcoming place. I remember many Thanksgiving and Christmas meals in her dining room. I was privileged to spend time at the Culham's home and at the cottage. I will miss her and her sense of humour. She always looked so well coordinated. I'm so glad to have known Ruth.
