DENNIS EDWARD DARBY, beloved husband of Alice Darby, passed away peacefully with family by his side at St. Therese Villa on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
Besides his loving wife Alice of 57 years, Dennis is survived by his daughters, Barbara Darby and Sandra (John) De Groot; and grandchildren Steven and Andrea De Groot. He will be fondly remembered by his cousins and Alice's family.
He was predeceased by his parents Marjorie and Lewis Darby and his only sibling James.
Dennis was born on June 23, 1941 in Regina, SK. He attended the U of S, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering, and graduated with a MSc from the University of Guelph in 1968. He was employed by Alberta Agriculture for 39 years, retiring in 2002.
Dennis was an avid curler. He loved nature, cards, playing pool and photography. He was always a fan of going for coffee. He spent lots of time volunteering for the McKillop United Church Property Committee, and the Lethbridge and Interfaith Foodbanks. You could also find him doing yard work around the condo.
Alzheimer's Disease affected him in the last seven years of his life. We thank all of his caregivers at St. Therese Villa, where he spent the last year of his life. Dennis' remains have been donated to the University of Calgary for medical research.

I worked with Dennis at Alberta Agriculture from 1989 to 1993. We sometimes went for coffee together. I always enjoyed his company -- he was pleasant, accepting, and kind plus a great conversationalist.
I'm so sorry for your loss Alice. We last spoke in 2019 before my wife Betty and I took our "finding roots" trip to southern Saskatchewan. Dennis was able to provide some information, and you were helpful in explaining a little bit about Dennis' condition. Years and years ago Dennis had forwarded me his family tree. I've taken an interest and am fairly active on Ancestry, and lo...Dennis was able to figure this stuff out years before! Please know you are in our thoughts... Leigh Darby (in Edmonton, son of Dave, who was son of Theophilus, who was brother of Edward George, who was Dennis' grandfather).
My sincere condolences Alice and the Darby family. You don't know me but I I had the pleasure of working with Dennis for a number of years and gained a great respect for him, his abilities and his dedication to to Alberta agriculture and more broadly to the Ag industry. May the days following be filled with fond memories along with the sadness and empty feelings you will experience.
We are sorry to hear of Dennis's passing. We enjoyed Dennis's company at work and at the curling rink. He was a true friend
Condolences Alice, Barbara, Sandra, John, Steven and Andrea on the loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather. Dennis was a man of integrity, intellect and honour. And while his accomplishments were many his greatest legacy lives in in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you Alice and Family. Rodney & Martha Our Mom's were such good friends and you and Dennis always remembered Helen for which we are forever greatful.
