SKIP DECOSTE passed away in Creston, BC, surrounded by his loving family, on August 18, 2020 at the age of 73 years.

SKIP DECOSTE passed away in Creston, BC, surrounded by his loving family, on August 18, 2020 at the age of 73 years.

He is survived by his wife Willie, his beloved daughter Stephanie (Kurt) Smailes and grand-dog Jax: sisters, Sherryl and Paulette (Stan) DeCoste; brothers, Frank (Shari), Ron (Lou) and Jerry (Brenda) DeCoste as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Skip was predeceased by his parents, Frenchy and Bunny DeCoste.

Skip loved to Captain his party boat, dressed to the nines, in a ball cap, t-shirt, shorts and Birkenstocks with a beer in hand; it was "always five-o'clock somewhere". He entertained family and friends on the Kootenay River and Kootenay Lake with the music of Jimmy Buffett playing in the background and his famous lychee-nut drink served on the cruise.

Skip could also be found in the Coffee Shack roasting up a storm, developing his own coffee blends for their locally owned business called Dewy Roast'em and Howe

He loved to travel all over the world with family and friends by air, land or sea. Skip was an avid scuba diver and had some great adventures diving in the ocean.

His love of pink flamingos, Jimmy Buffett and Margaritaville was evident throughout their house. Skip was a creative thinker, a collector of many items and could be counted on to find a good deal!

His wit, laughter and of course the many humorous emails will be missed by family and friends.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses in Cranbrook, Kelowna and Creston for their caring and support.

At his request, no funeral service will be held.

Donations may be made in Skip's memory to Angel Flight East Kootenay, 4360 Cokato Road, Fernie, BC V0B 1M4.

It was only today (June 6th, 2024) that I found Skip's obituary. And it saddened me very deeply. The fault for that is all my own. Darryl DeCoste was such a good guy, such a fun guy to be around. And although I was not one of his 'closest' friends, on the occasions when we did meet (often at the Outrider) Skip made me feel like I WAS his closest friend. But he did that for EVERYBODY! What a beautiful soul Skip was! AND STILL IS! The good news is that Skip still exists... he literally still exists, but in a different timeline than the one you are experiencing right now. All those who you love and who have passed on... they all still exist. We will see them all again when we leave this Earth world. And Darryl DeCoste is one dude I would love to see again.

Skipper: Remember the old days when we road our tricycles together. Grew up a little and rode in the Woodie for a few years. But I won't forget all the good times we had while growing up on the northside. Sheryl, Paulette, Frank, Ronnie and Jerry i'm very sorry Skip is no longer with us.

Butch, September 4, 2020

Lynn & Brenda Rosaine, September 3, 2020

Willie, I was very saddened to hear of Skip's death. Although we mostly communicated via his 'nutty' emails, I do treasure the few stop overs for coffee each summer while on my way to Slocan Valley. Sadly, I missed this trip last summer and as a result missed out on seeing Skip and you one more time. It was always a delight to visit your beautiful home, sample and purchase the fabulous Dewy Roast'em and Howe coffee, and share conversation. Skip will be sorely missed by so many friends. Skips' relationship with Jim Campbell (in New Orleans) over the years resulted in a special friendship and I know it was a definite highlight for Jim to travel to Canada and have a visit with you and Skip the summer before he died. I hope that you and Stephanie can be consoled with good memories. Please know that your loss is shared by so many of us. Please reach out for a call any time you need. Take care. Val (403-329-6582)

My brother Don and I went to the same school as Skip, and hung around with him in Lethbridge. We went to a few good parties "back in the day"! I'm sorry I lost contact with Skip. Turns out we were neighbours as I now live in Cranbrook, just an hour away. My condolences to the family. May the party begin in heaven...where I understand it is almost always five o'clock!

I met Skip at his buddies house in Idaho. His buddy is the dad (BA) to my good friend Chance. We only crossed paths for a little bit, but I've heard so much about him from both BA and Chance. He was GREAT friend to BA and I'm thankful for that. He will be missed greatly. Please accept my sympathies. God bless and take care.
