It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of our dear father and opa, Theodorus Wilhelmus deGroot (known to many as Ted). He passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 82 years at the Chinook Regional Hospital with family by his side.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of our dear father and opa, Theodorus Wilhelmus deGroot (known to many as Ted). He passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 82 years at the Chinook Regional Hospital with family by his side.
Ted is survived by his daughter Margaret DeGroot (Shawn Breland) of Calgary, son Frank (Charlene) DeGroot of Lethbridge, daughter Wendy DeGroot (Tim Carroll) and her son Brandon Kahl of Chilliwack, BC, and son John (Sandra) DeGroot and their children Steven and Andrea of Hays. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Mariet (Cor) Spierings and Annie (Jan) de Goeij; 3 brothers; Harrie (Annie) de Groot, Wim (Dora) de Groot and Martien deGroot, all of the Netherlands. He also maintained close contact with Christine's family; Pete Delisse, Wim Delisse (deceased), Willy Delisse, Toon Delisse (deceased), Annie Manders, Luus Van Esch and Tiny Delisse, his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Christine deGroot who passed away on November 17, 1986, his parents Francis and Martina de Groot and his sister Riek Zwanenberg.
Ted was born on February 21, 1933 in Uden, the Netherlands. Ted and Christine immigrated to Canada in 1958 where he farmed in Hays. He enjoyed travelling and spending quality time with his family and many friends. In later years he moved to Lethbridge where he adjusted very nicely to city life; spent time playing cards, bridge, badminton, curling and volunteering for the Knights of Columbus. He loved to go back and visit with family in the Netherlands.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME , 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday February 7, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Father Roque Periera, Celebrant. Cremation to follow.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Ted's name to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960 - 19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 1W5 or if you can donate blood to the Canadian Blood Services.

Though the contactmoments were few, they were full of joy and laughter. We remember your sense of humor and interests in the Dutch side of the family. So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My condolences to you all. I have so many fond memories of both your Mom and Dad! They were a lot of fun to be around and were like a second set of parents for me when I was younger.

Margaret & Shawn and the DeGroot family - we are so very sorry for your loss and we know you will miss him tremendously. He obviously lead a full and active life, devoting a great deal of time to his family and friends. We know you will have many great memories to help you in the days ahead.
