RICHARD "DICK" GERALD DEIMUTH, beloved husband and best friend to Karen Deimuth, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the age of 76 years.
Richard was a loving husband and father who cared deeply about his family; he will be dearly missed by his children: Craig (Kim) and their son Richard (Kyla), and Heather (Doug) and her daughter Brittany. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sheila Bailey and his nephews Darren and Sean Bailey and their families.
Richard was born on June 29, 1942 in Lethbridge, Alberta and grew up in the Sundial area. He attended school in Sundial, Turin and finished his formal education at Garbutt Business College in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Karen and Richard settled and raised their family in Nobleford, Alberta, where Richard became the manager of the retail division of Noble Cultivators. Richard was active in his community as a volunteer firefighter for twenty-five years, including time as fire chief. He and Karen were avid golfers and managed the Keho Park Golf Club Pro-Shop. Richard was instrumental in developing the original Keho Lake Golf Course.
Richard curled in the Nobleford & Lethbridge Curling Clubs & competitively with the Nobleford Legion and the Lethbridge Legion, achieving an eight ender in 1967. He was a coach for his son's Little League Baseball team, his grandson's Little Rockers Curling League, and an enthusiastic cheerleader at his granddaughter's dance recitals. Through all of these activities, both he and Karen developed cherished and lifelong friendships.
In their retirement years, Richard and Karen spent several years working at Paradise Canyon Golf Club, where they organized many tournaments and built many more meaningful and lasting relationships with friends and community members.
The family is most appreciative to all who supported Richard during his battle with his illness. They would like to thank the staff at the Jack Addy Cancer Center, Home Care nurse Helen, the doctors who were involved with his care, and the staff at St. Michael's Health Center - Palliative Care Unit.
In accordance with Richard's wishes, his immediate family will celebrate his life at a private gathering. the family respectfully declines flowers, but encourages anyone wishing to memorialize Richard to donate to a charity of their choice in his name.
