MARY DICK passed away at the Coaldale Health Centre on February 6, 2018, just shy of her 92nd birthday.

MARY DICK passed away at the Coaldale Health Centre on February 6, 2018, just shy of her 92nd birthday.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Esther and Ed and their families.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 1982.

Mary was born on March 23, 1926 in the little Mennonite village of Sparrau, Ukraine - the eldest child of Maria and Isaak Wall. Her childhood was very difficult and Mary suffered famine and life under a brutal communist government. Despite being forced to take care of herself and her 5 younger brothers and sisters with virtually no parental support or formal Christian teaching, Mary grew her faith from seeds planted by a God-fearing grandmother. God saw Mary through the four month-long wretched muddy trek from Ukraine to Poland; God comforted Mary when she was separated from her entire family in the tumultuous last months of the Second World War; and God accompanied her across the Atlantic and many miles to Coaldale, Alberta where she found a spiritual family in the Mennonite Brethren Church.

It was also in Coaldale that Mary met and married Ernest and raised their family. Throughout her life, Mary's faith in a loving and faithful God never wavered. She is remembered for her hard work, her eagerness to help anyone in need, her fierce love for her family and her determination to always do her best. She gave hugs and smiles to the very end.

A Graveside Service will be held at the COALDALE MENNONITE CEMETERY on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Gary Burke Officiating.

A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held following the Graveside Service, at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 - 18 Street, Coaldale, Alberta, from 11:00 A.M. To 1:00 P.M.

The chapter (from our Coaldale MB Youth of that time) of our parents with us is slowly coming to a close. But so many cherished memories stand out for me and they include your mom. Always smiling, positive and encouraging and steadfast in her faith through all the years I've known her. I would have loved to be at her service to hear her life's story and am sorry I wasn't able to. Esther and Ed, I so enjoyed meeting you from time to time at the SS Lodge and hope our paths cross again one day. May God continue to surround you with His love and the precious memories of your mom stay close to your hearts.

Hearing the news of Mary's passing brought tears to my eyes and a big smile too. She will reunite with her loved ones and especially her father which i cried each time she told me the sad story. She was always so helpful and had such a beautiful smile no one could be grumpy around her. Thank you Ed and Ester for looking after your mom so so just the best way possible. You both are so awesome and it was so nice to meet you. Take care Kim from sunny south

Our hearts and prayers go out to you, the family. Your Mom ( Grandma) will be remembered as a sweet, caring lady. Mom really appreciated her friendship over the many years together in Coaldale. It was also wonderful that they could be "neighbours" at the Lodge. Being there for each other.
