Dolores Edwards

Besides her loving husband Dick, Dolores is survived by her sons: Richard and Robert Edwards and daughter Rae-Ann MacDonald; grandkids: Jade (Lukas), Jayme (Matt), Jasmine, Tyson and Tye; and great-grandkids: Piper, Alyza and Ivie, as well as her sister Valeri Stefani (Rick) and her brother John Degenhardt.

She was predeceased by her parents, Val and Connie Degenhardt; her brothers Bill and Mike Degenhardt; son-in-law Gary MacDonald, and her nephew Kenny Stefani.

Dolores was the oldest of five kids born to Val and Connie Degenhardt on September 20, 1940. Dolores was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, but called Acadia Valley home. She received her education in Acadia Valley, Medicine Hat and Calgary.

Dolores met her soulmate, Dick Edwards, in Medicine Hat, where they got married on November 6, 1964, and had their three kids. They lived in Medicine Hat, Valley View, and Rainbow Lake, before settling in Brooks. Dolores participated and coached many sports and activities over the years. She was a lifetime Legion member and was also the first woman president of the Brooks Legion Branch #63. Dick and Dolores opened Dick’s Boiler in 1981, where they worked together for almost 40 years.

Dolores was always a hard worker. She spent her days bookkeeping for Dick’s Boiler and spent most of her evenings playing in her gardens. Dolores was an avid gardener. Her yard won the “Communities in Bloom Award” in Brooks in 2004. Her love of gardening was something she passed on to the next three generations. On top of gardening and bookkeeping, Dolores had an award-winning cold room filled with all kinds of canning and jams; she baked buns and filled the deepfreeze with cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers for the winter.

Dolores was a lifelong wrestling fan, who never missed a pay-per-view. She was often heard saying on Mondays and Fridays after work, “I’m going to go home, sit on my big fat ass, crack a beer and watch wrestling.”

She was a force and the perfect lady to have on your side, yet she was kind and very generous with a great sense of humour. She was the rock in our family and will be missed forever.

Dolores was laid to rest in a private Family Graveside Service.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
