Elly Brandsma

ELLY BRANDSMA, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Peter Brandsma, was called home to be with her Saviour at Fairmont Extendicare, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the age of 89 years.

Elly will be deeply missed by her daughter, Elaine (Ken), son Louis (Cindy) and daughter Karen as well as 15 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Akkie VanderWal and Pauline Withage, and her brother-in-law Jake Brandsma as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Besides her beloved husband Peter, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Lindsay and son-in-law Brian.

Elly was born in The Netherlands on June 20, 1935, and immigrated to Canada in 1951. She then married Peter, the love of her life, and together they began the challenges of settling in a new land with faith, strength and courage. Besides the busyness of raising a family and farming alongside Peter, Elly enjoyed several hobbies, including reading, puzzling and gardening, especially the tending of her flowers. Her greatest delight, however, was spending time with her family. Although Elly experienced much physical pain throughout her life, she endured it with bravery and a steadfast knowledge that she was safely in God’s hands. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, her loyalty and integrity, her unconditional love for her family, and her unwavering love and devotion to her Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A Viewing will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME - 2825 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

A Celebration of Elly’s life will be held at GRACE REFORMED CHURCH - 1402 8th Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Paul Van Stralen officiating. The service will be live-streamed and the link may be accessed via Elly’s obituary page on the Cornerstone website. A private Family Graveside Service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.
