GARBER

HERBERT GARBER, beloved husband of the late Clara Garber (nee Harty) for 60 years, passed away at Milk River Health Centre Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 89 years.

Dad was born August 1, 1927, in Weis, Austria. He immigrated to Canada settling in the Milk River area with his family just before his third birthday. Dad attended the 2-15 Country School and Milk River Consolidated High School. He continued his education at Coyne Electrical Trade School in Chicago.

On February 21, 1955, dad married the love of his life, Clara Harty and together they raised their 6 children on the family farm southeast of Foremost.

Dad's greatest love was his family. It was important to him that the family spend quality time together. Big occasions, little occasions and for no particular occasion, the more we were together the better. Next to his family, dad loved his steak at Northside Luigis in Lethbridge. Dad enjoyed his coffee, especially with apple pie and ice-cream. Other hobbies included playing cards, curling, camping and gardening, travelling and going for drives to check out the countryside.

Faith and community life were important to Dad. He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks. He was also a founding member of the Amateur Border Radio Club.

Herbert is survived by his children, Theresa (Dennis) McTaggart, Donald (Teresa) Garber, Linda Robutka, Maureen (Anthony) Miller, Laura (Darwin) Balog all of Milk River, AB and Sheila Garber of Airdrie, AB, 14 grandchildren; Layne (Cary-Anne) McTaggart, Lindsey (Joel) Hougen, Lee McTaggart, Kyle (Kelsey) Garber, Marcie Garber, Cody Robutka, Jason Robutka (Katey Caldwell), Kelsey Robutka, Danny (Amanda) Miller, Devon (Rachelle) Miller, Cheryl Miller (Hayden Rintoul), Bradley (Marina) Balog, Darla (Blair) Seward, Carmen (Patrick) Klatt; 6 great grandchildren Jordan Lodermeier, Carter Hougen, Payten and Dylan Garber, Braxton and Camden Balog. He is also survived by his in-laws Mark & Merelyn Harty, Vincent & Ann Harty, Conrad & Phyllis Harty, Peter & Lynn Harty, Harold & Marion Halvorson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Herbert was predeceased by his wife Clara, his parents Frank Sr. and Anna Garber, sister Freda and brother-in-law Pete Bruyckere, brother Frank Jr. and sister-in-law Margaret Garber, brother Ernie and sister-in-law Martha Garber, mother and father-in-law Ferdinand and Anna Harty and Katherine Harty, in-laws Ralph Harty, Magdalena & Manny Lehr, and his son-in-law Alan Robutka.

Dad's generosity, support and awesome sense of humour will be missed by his family and friends.

A Prayer Service will be held at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH - 321 Main Street Northwest Milk River, AB., on Friday February 10, 2017 at 7:30 P.M. with Father Benedicto Tugano IV officiating.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Benedicto Tugano IV and Father Dominic Nguyen celebrating.

Following the Memorial Mass, Herbert will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Clara, in the Milk River Cemetery.

So sorry for your loss of your dad and grandfather at this time. Will surely miss him as well. He was always just happy to shake your hand and always a smile. My folks always were happy to visit with him. I am so glad he was able to watch some of our Milk River Threshing demo last summer. He said it brought back many memories for him. Rest in peace Herb and Iam sure Clara will have some pie and coffee for you. The Hartys

Sending thoughts, prayers and love to your family. Herb, you were like another Dad to me. With all the children you and Clara had you always had room in your hearts and home for more. You will always be remembered and loved for all you shared. Sadly I will not be able to join my Garber family to say good bye, but I will be there in spirit. Love you all! E
