I have some fond memories of my Aunt Doreen. I remember as a boy going to the pool and park across the street from my Great Aunt Mildred's place in Port Kells. Aunt Doreen bought all the children an ice cream treat to have on that sunny day. This was very kind as it was not common at that time to buy something unless it was a special event. I think that Aunt Doreen had a soft side that she didn't always show and just wanted her nieces and nephews to enjoy a treat for no special reason, just for the fun of it. As I grew older, I also remember a time as a young teenager I backed up my parents car in the driveway and dented the passenger side door on my Aunt Doreen family blue Rambler station wagon. She never got mad at me, but I knew that she must of been quite angry that I could be so careless. I did pay to have the door repaired at Don's Auto Body in Aldergrove. (Don Charleton later married my Aunt Geri) When I was married with my own family, my mother Marlene, Aunt Doreen's next oldest sister to herself passed away from cancer in Abbotsford. Aunt Doreen had everyone over to her home. It was great comfort to have sandwiches, tea and a place to reflect with my brothers and sister, aunts, Grandma and Grandpa in my Aunt Doreen's home. She was always very kind to me, and took interest in what I was doing. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to my cousins, Aunt Darlene, Aunt Hazel and their families on the passing of their mother, grandmother, and sister.
