We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Thea Hoeksema, on October 17, 2021 at Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 96.

Thea was born in Groningen, Holland on March 3, 1925.  As a new bride, Thea immigrated to Canada in 1948 with her husband Hedde (Harry) Hoeksema (deceased 1988), settling in the Fort Macleod and Granum areas. Together, they raised their six children: Ari (Kathryn), Edward (Lorraine), Stella (Stephen), Randy, Ethel and Glenn (deceased 1984). Thea is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom she loved very much, as well as nephews and nieces all over the world.

Thea was predeceased by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

She was an accomplished homemaker and seamstress and enjoyed keeping herself busy with multiple crocheting, needlepoint and knitting projects. Her family and friends are the beneficiaries of many "Oma" afghans.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the Fort Macleod Handi-bus Society, the Fort Macleod Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of one's choice.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Granum Christian Reformed Church at 11 am on Friday, October 29, 2021 by invitation only. All current COVID restrictions will be followed.

Our sympathies to the family. I grew up in Fort Macleod and as a friend of Ari's was always welcome in the Hoeksema household. Thea treated me like another son. (The boys always said better than her own children!) Years later when Marilyn and I would return to Macleod, Thea always made us feel welcome in her home. She was a great lady.
