RICHARD MASSEY HOFFARTH, beloved husband of Sandra Hoffarth, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, of Lethbridge, passed away at the St. Michael's Health Centre, Palliative Care Centre, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the age of 57 years.
Richard leaves his loving wife Sandra, his daughter Mikala (Jerico Dalton), his parents Fred and Alene, his four brothers Greg (Judy), Monte, Fred(Brenda), Ray (Ginny), his four sisters Colleen (Jim) Gerla, Amelia (Kelly) Danielson, Colette (James) Brayley, Annette and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many of Sandra's family. He is predeceased by his infant brother Michael.
Richard was born December 27, 1959 in Lethbridge, AB. He grew up in north Lethbridge attending St. Basil's, St. Francis and CCH Schools. Richard followed in his father's footsteps and began working for CPR in High School. He began as a brakeman and worked his way up to engineer. He did this for 30 years until his illness in 2011.
Richard loved to be outdoors, fishing , camping, and tending to his yard. He was also a great carpenter and built and fixed many projects for his family.
Richard was quick witted, had a great sense of humor and kept these traits to the end. His love for music, singing and puzzles helped him get through tough times and provided us with many great memories.
Travel was a huge part of Richard and Sandra's life. Their favorite location was Kona, Hawaii where they learned to live in the moment and enjoyed many sunsets.
Richard's courage and strength throughout the years of his illness was to be admired. He lived every day with a grateful heart and amazing patience. The cancer did not define Richard, he remained a great husband, father, son, brother and friend to the end.
We would like to thank the staff at Lethbridge Hospital and Jack Ady center, as well as the amazing Pallative Care team including Homecare and the St. Michael's staff.
At Richard's request, no formal funeral service will be held. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.

To Colleen who I knew in grade school and high school, I send my deepest condolences in the loss of your brother. It must be difficult for you as I know how much you helped guide your younger siblings - you were so much more mature than the rest of us and I believe it was because you shouldered so much responsibility in your family. I hope you are well and continue to be strong. I do wish you peace. To your family, I wish the same. Sincerely, Terry Perkinson Johnson
