She is survived by her children: David and Jane (Ian), and special family friend Carla Schluchter.
She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia and her brother and sister: Fred (Lou) Patterson, and Edith Patterson as well as her parents, Cecil and Laura Patterson.
Joyce was a Public Health Nurse, graduating from the University of Alberta Hospital with a Bachelor of Nursing. After her husband retired, she immediately started working at Peoples Jewellers. After working there for twenty years, Joyce retired at the age of 80.
Joyce was proud of her father’s lifework developing hardy fruit trees and flowers, designed for the Prairies. She nurtured the Patterson lilies for over 60 years.
She discovered quilting in 1975, and it became an everyday passion, winning many awards for her creations. Joyce was an inaugural member of the Seamsters Union and crafted many peedoozlers.
At her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Victoria’s Quilts Canada which provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer or the charity of your choice.
We are so glad that Mom and Dad are reunited along with their beloved cat Lucy.

My sincere condolences to the family!
David, Jane; your Mom was a wonderful gal, she loved you both and spoke of you often. I'd speak with Joyce most every evening for the past 2 years, while visiting Edith Cavelle. Joyce would often say, do you have to go so soon. I'd reply, say see U tomorrow. We'd talk about time, and how long tomorrow sometime takes. So here we are, at the eternal days of tomorrow for Joyce. I have joyous brave memories of Joyce.. she was certainly a women of character and determination. May Joyce's eternal rest be youthful and well, and aged no more. Blessing for you both.
David and family we are sending you our thoughts and prayers during this time. Our deepest sympathies on the loss of your mom.
I am sorry to hear about Joyce’s passing and the passing of your dad. She was a great quilting friend.
David & Jane, so sorry for yet another loss. Mom & I always had great visits with your mom at Edith Cavell. Loss is always difficult but your Mom & Dad are now together & at peace. God bless.
Dearest Jane, David and families. We are saddened to learn of “Mrs Sarsfields” passing, but how special your Mom and Dad are together now. Our Mothers were best friends and my Mom thought the world of Joyce. There were many coffee gatherings to discuss everything under the sun including the latest politics and their next trip for their cigarette run. A wonderful cook always sending your Dad over with special treats freshly made. She was a kind and very caring woman and will be sadly missed. Our deepest sympathy to all.
We were fortunate to meet Joyce in 1997 at People’s, and she soon became more than our favourite jewellery lady. She was there to help us celebrate all our big moments. Our engagement, wedding and birth of our babies. She will forever be a large part of who we are today. You will be greatly missed. ❤️
