MARY KATHRYN ‘KAY’ HADFORD passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Mary was the youngest of 7 children born to August (Gust) Hadford (Hedfors) from Gefle, Sweden and his wife, Hanna Elvina (Halverson) Hadford, who was born at Miringo, Norway. She was predeceased by her parents and 2 sisters and 4 brothers; Celeste (Mabel) Engemoen, Gladys Bartlett, Claude Hadford, Harneg Hadford, Cecil Hadford and Leighton Hadford. Mary was born August 22, 1917 at Japlin, Montana and attended school at Grantie Falls School in Iron Springs. She served in the women’s division of the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War. Mary came to the Lethbridge Northern District in1926 with her parents and siblings, where they settled on a farm 5 miles west of Iron Springs. She worked in ‘Parts’ at Watsons’, Picture Butte for many years and also drove school bus for some time. A Celebration of Mary’s Life and Reception will be held at the ELKS HALL, Picture Butte on Monday, May 11, 2009 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Memorial Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1811-2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0E8.
