ANITA LOUISE LANHAM, of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at the age of 66 years.
Due to complications with her diabetes, she left behind sister Monica Lynn Lanham, her niece Kayla Louise Lanham, and her nephew Kelsey Lynn Lanham. Including cousins in Belgium and Calgary as well as her honorary family, the Deering's family, Pat Hrynczuk, and the Bolstad family. She has joined her father, William Earnest Lanham and her mother, Stephanie Louise Lanham.
Anita was born in Calgary, on April 28, 1957. Anita was a school teacher; she started as a substitute teacher and years later became a full-time teacher in Pincher Creek, she then moved over to Huntsville for several years before retiring from Jenny Emery in 2022. The pride she took in molding the next generations was beautiful; she treated everyone like they were her own child. She would always go above and beyond to make sure everyone felt safe and inclusive in her classroom. The world would've been an entirely different place without Anita, and the light she brought with her every day was always carried over to her personal life as she had many lifelong friends and colleagues.
During her retirement, she was given the one thing she wanted most of all, her first puppy, the great Briar! She enjoyed walking with Sassy around Henderson so they could look at the ducks and geese, which she was hoping to continue to do with Briar. Kayla is proud to be the one to watch Briar grow old as she will get to keep a part of Anita alive for years to come, just as Anita did for Sassy; her late mother's Boston terrier.
She had many hobbies; crafting, quilting, cricketing, antiques, and many more. Anita's love for animals was inherited and was a life-long passion, as well as spending time with her loved ones.
A Celebration of Anita's Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., with a formal service beginning at 4:45 P.M. with Pat Siedlecki officiating.
Anita will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Anita, donations can be made to The Lethbridge Humane Society (lethbridgehumanesociety.com)

My grandson attended Jennie Emery school for pre-school, kindergarten and grades 1 thru 4. Every morning, he wanted me to stay in the room until "Oh Canada" was sung. All of the teachers were ok with this. But then when he got to Miss Lanham's class, she made me feel extremely welcome! I know the teachers are there for the income, but it didn't take me long to feel the spirit of Miss Lanham! We had a few chit chats and she was definitely there for each and every child. I know in Heaven, she will continue to teach any children she happens to meet.
Monica and Family, we were so sorry to hear of Anita's passing. She was such a kind and loving person. She always made you feel special. I had the pleasure of working with her for many years at the school. I know you will be lost without her. Our sincerest condolences.
