Send a Tribute

Born in 1930 in Capodistria Italy, now Slovenia, Lidia came to Canada in 1957 with her husband Luciano and their son Giuliano.

Born in 1930 in Capodistria Italy, now Slovenia, Lidia came to Canada in 1957 with her husband Luciano and their son Giuliano.

Upon arriving in Canada, Lidia worked and lived on a farm with her family before settling in Lethbridge. She worked hard to learn English, as Italian was the only language she knew. Lidia worked for a dry cleaner, then took a job sewing for a commercial company, moving on to do finishing work on mobile homes at Bendix, which became SRI homes in 1985. Lidia retired at 55. She was well known for being an extremely hard worker for any job she was asked to do.

Being outdoors and in the mountains was a happy place for Lidia and Luciano. Many weekends were spent camping and fishing for trout at Beaver Mines and Police Lake with their grandson and friends. They eventually desired a spot to call their own and purchased an acreage at Duck Lake in 1981, building a log cabin and drilling a well for running water. Lidia and Luciano forged many lifetime friendships with those who also loved going to Duck Lake and enjoyed a good meal, laughter, and of course homemade wine.

Lidia offered love and kindness wherever she went and would greet you with a bright smile. She will be remembered for her cooking and the way it brought everyone together. So many laughs and smiles were shared around the table. She learned how to cook from her own experimentation and many of her recipes had people fighting over them. She would show her love with her food and use any special occasion to invite you over for dinner. One would never go away hungry from any of her meals and would almost always make you wish you had bigger pants.

In addition to cooking, Lidia loved working in the garden, looking after her flowers and took pride in having a pristine house. She was never far from Luciano and they did everything together. They had a very strong bond that you could see whenever you were around them. They explored together and went on many Sunday drives just to see the country. They shared any work that was needed, from projects to yard work to wine making. You would not see one without the other. Their love saw them through some very hard times and now they are together again.

Lidia was predeceased by her husband Luciano in 2022. She is survived by her son, Giuliano (Dawna), their son Dean. Also fondly remembered by her grandson Jade and his child Myth.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating. An open casket viewing will be held prior to the Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon.

Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial tributes may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

I worked with Lidia at the Bendix mobile home factory, later to become General Homes. She was a wonderful person who everyone enjoyed working with. She was friendly with everyone and was always willing to help. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

So sad to hear of Lidia’s passing. I met her when I was 17, my first job at Perlux Cleaners. Her smile lit up the whole place. She taught me so much, (not just how to perfectly iron mens shirts) but she took me under her wing. She was a beautiful soul.

Mavis, Jade and Myth - I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad I got to know Lidia and all of you when I played piano at Extendicare. Lidia was certainly a very special lady and will be greatly missed.
