MARGARET (PEGGY) JOYCE MACKAY (ZINCK) passed away peacefully on January 21, 2017 at Chinook Regional Hospital following a stroke. She was 88 years old.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty years, Donald C. MacKay, her twin brother Bob, sisters Mary Louise and Elizabeth, and her parents Sydney and Mary Zinck. She is survived by son Bruce (Flora) and daughter Gillian and her granddaughters Elizabeth (Fran?ois) and Maggie.
Peggy was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and kept those Maritime roots strong throughout her life with yearly trips back East to visit dear old friends and family. After moving to Lethbridge in 1967, she and Don were active members of McKillop United Church where they made many life-long friends. She was a leader of the CGIT and served the church in a number of capacities. A graduate of Mount Allison University, Peggy remained a life-long learner and an avid reader. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was hard to beat at Scrabble. She worked as a library assistant at Lakeview School and volunteered in the Lethbridge Public Library Read-On program. After retirement, Peggy and Don travelled widely, taking trips to Europe, South America, the U.S.A., as well as their yearly pilgrimages to the Maritime provinces. Peggy loved music, was a long-time supporter of the Lethbridge Symphony and played saxophone in the Community Band for a number of years. She encouraged and supported the developing musical interests of her children and loved playing the family piano until she no longer could. She struggled with dementia in her later years but never lost her gracious charm and wit.
The MacKay family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Park Meadows Village for the excellent support and care Peggy received in the past year.
A Funeral Service celebrating Peggy's life will be held at the MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 - 15th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Friday, January 27th, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lethbridge Association for Community Living 527 6 St S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2E1- Ph. 403-327-2911.

She was a beautiful woman and a great host. So sorry to hear this news. Love to you all.
I am so sorry for the loss of our your mother and grandmother. When I was newly married and new to Lethbridge, my husband and I were invited to a dinner party at your parents' home. I remember how gracious and welcoming Peggy was to me. I saw her at Soil Science parties, at curling and at church and always enjoyed our visits. May she rest in peace and I pray that you find comfort in the love and support for your family and friends.
Peggy and Don were wonderful friends during our years in Lethbridge. We played bridge together as well as enjoying many activities at church. Their love and pride of their family was boundless. Take comfort from that and the many memories of lives well lived. John & Marlene
Dear ones--just read the lovely account of Peggy's life---it is the time of her service right now---wish we could be there---feeling very sad--this is the third close friend of our MtA class to die in the past few months. PEggy and Don were such special friends--we used to find that every year we could immediately pick up, almost as if there had been no separation. YOu were all so good to her and she was so very proud of all of you. HOpe we will continue to be in cont act. OUr sincere sympathy to you all---with our love. CHarlotte and Keith
Peggy was such a lovely lady and brightened my day every time I saw her. My sympathies to the family. Her death is a great loss. My prayers for them and that her spirit may be at peace.
On behalf of our Pastoral Care Committee at McKillop I visited your Mother during the past year when she was a resident at Good Sams. What a special lady she was and I think she enjoyed my visits with her. I have not met her family but just wanted to express my sympathy to all of you
I also love music and attend as many concerts as I can. After I changed my seat selection for the Symphony concerts I landed next to this sweet, chatty lady named Peggy. My grandmother was born in Nova Scotia and it is my dream to travel there some day so Peggy and I talked about Nova Scotia and her love for music and her family. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats prior to each concert. I have and will continue to miss Peggy.
To the Mackay family, We wish to express our deepest sympathy to the Mackay family, particularly to Bruce and Flora, Elizabeth and Fran?ois, and to Maggie. Be aswsure that we share your sorrow. Lucille & Alyre Picard
