Send a Tribute

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of DONALD MACKENZIE, who passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on February 26, 2017 at the age of 69 years.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of DONALD MACKENZIE, who passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on February 26, 2017 at the age of 69 years.

Don is lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife Judy, daughter Christie (Mike) Archibald, son David, six grandchildren; Raygen, Rylee, Nathan, Connor, Alexis and Jesse, mother Helen, sister Susan (Lon) Redpath and niece Megan (Jay) McMillan.

Don was predeceased by his father Gordon and his brother Brian.

Don was an investment advisor for 40 years. He loved his job and became close friends with many of his clients. Don was the co-founder of the Lethbridge Food Bank and served as President of the Board for more than 20 years. He found great joy in helping others.

Don had a passion for the sport of shooting and was a member of the Fort Whoop-Up Black Powder Club. He really enjoyed competing, serving on the board, taking care of the range and being with all the great people in that organization.

Don loved visiting with and talking to people. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. We will miss all of his interesting stories and good advice. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at the SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH - 1011 - 4th Avenue South Lethbridge, AB on Friday, March 10th, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend James Grunden officiating.

In lieu of flowers there will be a donation box for the Lethbridge Food Bank at the church.

Dear Judy, Christie, Mike & family, David & mother Helen, Our deepest & heartfelt sympathies go out to you all. Your memories of time shared with Don will be your strength! As you support and comfort each other, may you find peace. I will often think of Don and our many and varied conversations. They covered Don's interest in the world, both past and present. Don held a deep love and pride for his family. I will always smile at his ability to find a wife willing to carry his guns! We will miss Don for many reasons and others yet to be discovered as time passes. Don has left behind an amazing legacy! His legacy will live on with every person his life touched. This is a centuries old paraphrase of a text written by Saint Basil, that sums up Don's legacy. There is no finer legacy than this: a tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds, a good deed is never lost; He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. It just seemed like a year and a half ago (it was) when we had our 50th class reunion for RHS. It was great to see Don there. He certainly added to our good times in High School. Condolences to the family.

I am saddened to hear of your incredible, deep loss of the wonderful, humble man that I had the privilege of caring for. During that brief time, I witnessed his courage, love for family and friends, and passion for life. He was an inspiration to me - he will be missed - I will not forget him.

So saddened by Don's passing. I will miss all the afternoon conversations we had at the Parkside over coffee talking about guns, farming, cars and all the stories of growing up as farm kids in McNally and Wrentham and the hell we raised. He will be missed.

To Judy, family and friends: we are more sorry than we can express to learn of the loss of your husband and dear friend. Don was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word and there are few people who possessed his vitality, intelligence and high regard for family, friends and clients. It is still difficult to realize completely that we are now to be denied this association. It was a privilege to be Don's friend and we will miss him greatly.

David & Elly Crawford, February 28, 2017
