KENNETH LYALL McCLAIN, beloved husband of Monica McClain of Lethbridge, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the age of 76 years.
Ken is survived by his children, Kirk McClain of Calgary, Greg (Deanne) McClain of Fort McMurray and Bev (Chris) Slater of Kilarney, MB; his grandchildren, Kirk McClain (Jacky Vanderfluit), Brittani McClain (Matt Reddleback), Douglas McClain (Cheyenne White), Kirsten McClain (Cam Jansma), Allyson McClain, Sarah Slater, Hannah Slater and Nicholas Slater; his great-grandchildren, Madison Slater and Izabella Slater; his daughter-in-law, Tracy McClain and sister-in-law, Elaine McClain as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Jack McClain and Bill McClain.
Ken grew up in Northern Ontario where he spent his youth playing baseball as a backcatcher, hockey as a goalie, and curling. He came west to British Columbia to find adventure, work, and play ball with his boyhood friends, Richard Prest, Gordie Prest and Ron Smith. Known to his friends as "Grasshopper," Ken was the life of any gathering.
His journey brought him to Riondel, BC where he met his wife, Monica, who would stay by his side for 53 years. A devoted father and grandfather, Ken was dedicated to supporting his family and giving them the best life. Ken and Monica always went the extra mile for their grandkids, often hosting them and their pets.
Ken will be fondly remembered for his smile, the songs he taught his grandkids, and time spent camping and fishing in the outdoors with his family.
Ken's wish was to not have a formal funeral service. He asked that everyone remembers him and the fun they had together over the years. His ashes will be returned to his hometown of Madsen, ON where his family will gather to send him home.
In memory of Ken, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca/donate.
