McFadzen, Eileen Mhairi Dunlop

Send a Tribute

Eileen died on June 19 following a brief illness.

Eileen died on June 19 following a brief illness.

Eileen was born and raised in Hamilton, Scotland and came to Canada fifty years ago. She and her husband, Iain, settled in Lethbridge and proceeded to make a life for their family.  She trained as a social worker in Scotland and continued those studies in Lethbridge, instilling in her children a love of learning.  She also worked as a research assistant at the University of Lethbridge.

Eileen was an intelligent, funny, and articulate woman who was known for keeping those around her on their toes. She was a proud grandmother to five much-loved grandchildren. She passed on many traits her children are proud to carry forward, the least of which is fierce loyalty.

Eileen was a lover of books and there are countless bookcases in the house.  She would have been happiest if each wall was floor to ceiling books.  Her garden brought her great joy and she loved pottering about amongst the riotous colours of the flowers.

She will be missed in immeasurable ways.

She is survived by her husband Iain; children Kae, Jan (Ted), Lyn, and Kevin (Michelle); grandchildren Aidan, Isla, Keelin, Niamh, and Liam; sister Ishbel (John) and their children Iain and Helen; sister-in-law Patricia.

At Mum's request, there will be no funeral.

Sending our condolences from Edmonton. Luckily most of my visits with Eileen & Iain were in Lethbridge over coffee and they were a joy! I am grateful for those moments of laughter and friendship. RIP Eileen. Hugs to Iain and family.
