GORDON JAMES MILLER of Milk River, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital with family at his side on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the age of 67 years.
Gordon will be forever missed by his adoring wife of 39 years, Valerie Miller.
He is the proud and loving father of Jeralyn (Paul) Goldsmith, Tyson, Kale (Megan) and Zachary (Shannon). Gordon was also very smitten with his six grandchildren: Payden, Harper, Emmett (Jeralyn), Adair (Kale) and Wade & Ashton (Zachary). His grandchildren were his whole world and he was excited for the arrival of #7 in May.
Gordon is also survived by a loving extended family, his brother Ken (Carol) Miller, sister Carol (Harold) Johansen and sister Marilyn (Jean) Bouchard and all of their loving families.
He is predeceased by his parents Merritt and Corinne Miller, sister-in-law Mary Miller, nephew David Johansen as well as his parents-in-law Ailsa Fiander-Morris, Robert Fiander & Steve Morris.
From a young age, Gordon developed a love of farming that would last a lifetime. He was certainly fond of his cows and loved to spend time watching them out in the pasture. He was also very eager to get the combines rolling at the first sign of harvest. Even after spending almost 3 weeks in the hospital in the summer of 2020 Gord was determined to drive the combine during harvest for the bumper crop he was excited about.
Gordon was very proud to be a member of his small-town community. He was involved with coaching basketball, leading 4-H clubs and church councils. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing crib and sports. Gord was a long-time member of both the Canadian & American Salers Association and the Canadian Charolais Association.
He always had time to stop and have a visit with a friendly face. Gordon touched many lives with his generosity and kindness and will be so dearly missed by all who knew him.

Sincere condolences to you Val. Gordie was always so nice to me and a couple of times we shared private hilarious jokes about how old Ken is! This was way back in the '80s but I still remember his great laugh. I also remember him caring for Corky and bouncing the little nieces on his knee. God bless you all, thinking of you all fondly.

Upon learning of Gord's passing, we wept. For more than 40 years this man was at the heart of our family. I remembered days long ago when I'd help him out on the farm, cleaning granaries, branding cattle, picking rocks. Good times- not so much. I also remember helping him rebuild the engine on the '69 Impala, a car that Val would later use during college. That was an education! And I remember him renovating the basement of Mom and Dad's house in Milk River. There were countless times he helped out our family when we needed a hand. But then helping others was a part of his DNA. As was his humour and his compassion. His many wonderful qualities will be remembered. And because of these, and the way he charmed his way into the hearts of all of us, he will be remembered. At this time we send our love to you Val, to Jer and Paul, Tyson, Kale and Megan and Zach and Shannon and to each of the grandchildren. Know we are with you in spirit. With much love, David and Carrie
Val, Jer, Tyson, Kale, Zach and families, Sending you so much love during this time. Each and everyone of you hold such a special place in my heart, and I am so very saddened to hear of Gord's passing. I remember the first time I ever met Gord, after hearing many stories that Val and Jer shared, and let's just say he lived up to all the hype :). I was instantly drawn to his sarcasm and wit, but also found a man that was kind and loving. Gord, along with all you amazing Miller's always made me feel loved and welcomed during my time in Alberta. Sending all my love your way as you celebrate a truly remarkable man. Xoxo

I am always going to have very fond memories of Gordie beginning from our days at 4H with his great sense of humour and his generous support for the younger members of the club. He also left impressions not easily forgotten by a current colleague of mine who spent time with him at Lister Hall at the U of A where apparently he instigated boxing matches! I regret that life did not give more chances to get together and we give all our best to Val and family during this time.
