Mitchell, Naomi

It is with great sadness that we announce that NAOMI MITCHELL was called into her Saviour's presence on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

It is with great sadness that we announce that NAOMI MITCHELL was called into her Saviour's presence on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Naomi is survived by her loving husband, Douglas, her sons: Andrew, Ian, and Robert (Nancy), as well as her five grandchildren: Caitlin, Stuart, Kyle, Riley, and Megan. She is also survived by her brother Gary (Anna) Cornel, as well as many nieces and nephews on both the Cornel and Mitchell sides of the family.

Naomi was born on February 14, 1934, to John and Sadie Cornel in Hampstead, England. She immigrated to Canada in 1954, and settled in Ottawa, where her elder sister Zoe lived. This is where she met Douglas and they were married on October 11, 1958.

During their time in Ottawa (1958-1976), Naomi was dedicated to raising her children and building lasting memories with family and friends.

While attending a Bible study at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Naomi committed her life to Christ and continued to serve Him until He called her home.

The family moved to Lethbridge in 1976. A servant's heart led Naomi to spend many years as a Volunteer Coordinator at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. She spent many hours transporting disabled adults to events to improve their quality of life and make their day-to-day lives a little brighter.

Naomi's faith was very important to her. She spent many hours quietly working behind the scenes in both her home churches.

She had a special gift with children, and Sunday school teaching was a true passion for her, both in Ottawa and Lethbridge.

As an Elder in Lethbridge, she believed in the importance of visiting her congregants in her pastoral district, and by building relationships it strengthens the local church.

In recognition of her contributions, the Presbyterian Church in Canada appointed Naomi as a lifetime member of the Women's Missionary Society.

Our hearts are heavy and our lives will never be the same without our beloved Naomi, yet we are filled with gratitude for a life well lived. We give thanks to God that He entrusted her to be an example of her faith in Jesus Christ to her family and all those that she encountered.

The family would like to thank the care teams at the Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit for the excellent care and love that Naomi received.

Friends and family are invited to join us for a Memorial Service at ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1818 - 5th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Daniel Surya officiating.

Donations in Naomi's memory can be made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (crhfoundation.ca/content.php?p=47), St. Michael's Health Centre (https://covenantfoundation.ca/gift-in-memory) or a charity of your choice.
