Born in Lethbridge to Ukrainian immigrants, Peter’s family relocated to a farm north of Coaldale when he was nine. The land became a central part of his life, inspiring in him the values of hard work and communal responsibility.
Pete’s passion for education led him to serve as a teacher at Hutterite colonies and rural schools, eventually becoming the principal of John Davidson School in Coaldale, where his leadership and dedication touched the lives of countless students and colleagues.
In his free time, he traveled the world with his wife. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club and Archaeological Society, through which he devoted so much time and energy to serving his community.
In honoring Pete’s memory, may we continue to embody the values of collectivism, community, generosity and family that he held so dear. May he rest in peace.

Diana & Family, Remembering all the neighborhood parties together and all the good times. Especially recall picking up a gold miner who was hitchhiking home from Fort McLeod after his Calgary buddies dropped him off while they headed north. May your memories bring you comfort in the difficult days ahead.
Condolences to all of the Slemko/ extended family at this very sad and difficult time. I have memories of Mr Slemko as principal of my school while I was there for grs 1-6. He will be remembered for many things as well as in the education community.
With sympathy and good memories of you being my teacher and principal when I was at John Davidson school. I also got to know you in later years as you knew my family and we were at social events together. Especially remember him as he was at my moms 80th birthday party. Condolences to all of your family at this very sad time.
