He leaves behind his loving wife and partner of 67 years, Marguerite; his children: Wendy, Darin (Patti), and Brian (Tania); grandsons: Dustin, Markus and Levi; and great-granddaughter Remi-Lynn. He also leaves his brothers: Gerald and Wayne.
Ron was predeceased by his parents; George and Edna; step-mother Irma Middleton; sister-in-law Mary Wobick; sister-in-law Anne Erickson and her husband Edward Erickson; brother-in-law George Sevcov; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ron was born in Lethbridge at the Galt Hospital on July 6, 1934 to George & Edna Wobick. Ron spent his early years attending Barons Consolidated School until grade nine, before attending LCI in Lethbridge when his family moved to Lethbridge in 1949. After high school, Ron worked one winter on a seismic crew for Sedco, which was owned by the Seaman Brothers. They couldn’t convince him to stay and Ron left to start his farming career. In 1955, he met Marguerite Sevcov of Barons at a Barons Sports Day dance and on June 20, 1957, they were married in Lethbridge. In 1958, they moved to the Harvey Renkenberger farm, which Ron’s Dad had previously purchased. There they raised their family and resided over the next 47 years, before moving to Nobleford in 2005. After living there for 17 years, they moved to the Sierras condominiums and then to The View, both in Lethbridge.
During Ron’s lifetime he was quite active. From breaking his ankle playing hockey, to being the skip that led his LCI high school curling team to a district championship during his school years, to being on the Barons School Board, Barons Gun Club, Lethbridge Trap Club, Keho Lake Golf Club and Nobleford Lions club during later years. He had just received his 65-year service pin from the Barons Elks club. Ron especially enjoyed trap shooting. It was an excuse for a family vacation, taking the kids to places from Vancouver to Phoenix, Great Falls to Missoula. He made many lifelong friends doing that. In later years, he and Marguerite started going south in the winter, making more friends along the way. They started going down in a car, then a Chevy van before graduating to a couple of different fifth wheel trailers. As time went on, they started taking some cruise vacations, seeing Europe on river cruises and Alaska and the Panama Canal on ocean liners. A true farmer he was, still helping with harvest running a combine until he was 85 years old.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. The Celebration of life will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Ron’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
