He was predeceased by parents John & Katherine (née Koziol) Mankow, sister Elizabeth (Doug) Moffat and brother Leon Mankow, as well as friends Charles & Margaret Oslanski.
Serg was born in 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta, and raised in the small hamlet of Buford. He was the third of four children born to the late John and Katherine Mankow.
Serg started his oilfield and farming roots in early childhood. In the fall of 1967, he moved to Milk River to continue in the oilfield and in 1977, he formed his own oil company, Sarg Oils. Then in the 1990’s, he started farming on his homestead southwest of Milk River. He continued farming until his passing, at the age of 84.
Outside of work, Serg kept busy with his seven children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Quality time together included driving many miles down dirt roads and highways, checking wells, practicing his yodelling, and playing hours of crib.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge, creating new inventions, and sharing all he learned with his children. Serg had a kind, adventurous, eccentric soul, and was ready to help anyone in need.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at HOLY ASCENSION RUSSO GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 8 km west of Calmar on Hwy 39, then 3 km north on RR 275, Calmar, AB, on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Yevhen Protsenko and Very Reverend Igor Kisil celebrating.
