It is with great sadness and gentle relief that the family of VIOLET ANN VIOLA THIELEN, ne? Garrick, announces her passing after a lengthy illness, on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the age of 77 years.
Violet will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Paul and their children, Cynthia (Lyle) Parr and Maria (Richard) Campbell as well as her sister Kathleen Giesbrecht. Violet will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, Tyson (Jessie) Parr, Duncan (Lasha) Campbell, Erica (Ryan) Larsen, Tavis (Amanda) Campbell, Evan Parr and Tiana Campbell and her six great-grandchildren Koen Parr, Nelia and Zayden Campbell, Jordynn Larsen and Royce and Oliver Campbell, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Violet was predeceased by her parents Robert and Helen Garrick, her daughter Michele Thielen, triplet infant great-granddaughters Henlee, Quinn and Calla Larsen and her brother Robin Garrick.
Violet was born on November 26th, 1940 in Wayne, AB and attended school in Vulcan, Divide, SK and Coutts. During her school years, she was very active in basketball and was the Southern Alberta Basketball Queen. She furthered her education at Lethbridge Junior College where she received a Medical Dental Secretary Certificate. After completing her course Violet worked at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.
On May 6th, 1961, Violet married the love of her life Paul Thielen. A year later they moved to Coutts to start their family life. During her time in Coutts, Violet volunteered and joined many different clubs and organizations. Over the years she was active in curling, hose laying, square dancing, pinochle, parent council, cheerleading coach and Catholic Women's League.
After her three girls were out of diapers, Violet returned to the work force. She worked for Border Brokers and then for the veterinary department at Canadian Border Services. Violet and Paul loved to travel. They enjoyed their adventures across Canada, the United States, Mexico, The Caribbean, Europe, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, China and Egypt. However, Violet's greatest trips were to Hungry to investigate her heritage as well as search for and get to know the family she found there.
Violet considered her greatest love to be her family, whom she treasured and adored. Her kindness, caring and support are a gift her family will carry forever.
We would like to thank the staff of St. Michael's Health Centre, Edith Cavell Care Centre, Chinook Regional Hospital, Milk River Health Centre and the many family and friends who have provided their love and support.
A Prayer Service and celebration of life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, October 15th at 7:00 P.M.
