Valarie was born in February 1952 in Calgary, Alberta to Martin and Theresa Scherger. It was a family visit in 1966 to the Keim farm in Mossleigh where she first met her future husband, Brian Keim.

Val and Brian married in 1969 and shared many years and memories living in Calgary until 1988, when then relocated to Lethbridge. Together they welcomed two children: Michael and Michelle.

She was a stay-at-home Mom until 1984, then had the pleasure of working with fantastic people at the Bank of Montreal (Calgary & Lethbridge) and Save-On-Foods during her career. She happily retired in 2010 at the age of 58.

Val will be eternally loved and missed by her husband of 55 years, Brian, children: Michael (Carol), Michelle (Jeff), buttered toast loving grandchild: William, sisters Marlene (Wayne), Sheila and Denise (Steve), and brother (Mervin). Val was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Theresa Scherger, brother David and brother-in-law Earl Mote.

She will be remembered for her immense love of family, pride in a clean house, delicious baking, misquotes and keeping game night hijinks from getting out of control.

A celebration of Val’s life will be held at home on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. We welcome anyone who knew Val to come visit during that time window to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Crohn’s and Colitis of Canada (chrohnsandcolitis.ca) or a worthy charity of your choosing.
