Veryl Todd
Veryl was born October 20, 1941 in Carmangay to a family with five cherished brothers. Veryl was loved by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He spent many happy and fun times laughing with his close friendships with his extended family. Veryl’s large personality, kind heart and love for his family, friends and community, were trademarks of his life. He was never more proud than when he spent time with Ingrid, his children, his friends and his colleagues, in both his 40+ year radio career, 25 year career teaching at the Lethbridge Community College and brewing and tasting beers with his friends. He was a true Stampeders fan and attended decades of games, won many awards for his skills in brewing, and was well loved in the broadcasting world. He often told his family how grateful he was to “Have the best job in the world”. Veryl won “Teacher of the Year” at the LCC and was a mentor to his students. He loved seeing them all grow and succeed, and always shared how they kept in touch with him over the years.

His laugh and double dimple smile were seen and felt by all and he was known to share an opinion or two. Many friends he had for over 60 years, with colleagues becoming friends, and these important relationships helped to stoke his love for debate and continued late night chats he enjoyed so much. We cannot forget his many furry friends, with the last one, Peanut, who passed away earlier this year. He loved with his whole heart and you could feel it in every moment that you spent with Veryl. Above all, Veryl loved his wife Ingrid and their three children. He was the best, most devoted father that his kids could ask for and there are not enough words to speak to the loss of their dad. He was an adoring grandfather and always loved spending time with his grandkids, sharing in their lives, laughs, tears and many chats about his favourite topics, like politics, history and world news. He will be forever missed.
Veryl is is survived by his wife Ingrid Todd; his children: Stephanie and Grant Waddell, Pamela Todd and Larry Fontaine, and Jason and Karen Todd; grandchildren: Haley and Brett Lyons, Sam Waddell and Brianne McJunkin, Tavin Todd and Eric Smith, Talin Todd, Alaynna Heintz, Kelsey Heintz, and Isaac and Noah Fontaine; and great-grandchildren: Kohen and Sawyer French. Veryl is also survived by his brothers: Ken Todd and Russell (Edna) Todd; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as family on Ingrid’s side: Helga Ragan, Debby and Pat Mcillhargy, Elisabeth Garland and numerous nieces and nephews. He very deeply loved spending time with all of them.
Veryl was predeceased by his parents Gaye and George Todd; brothers Timmy Todd and Dennis Todd; and nephews Travis and Christopher Todd.
Ingrid and the family extend so much gratitude to the cherished neighbours that pitched in to help them over the years, all the people that came to their home to provide everything from haircuts to pedicures, and the stellar staff at AHS that helped to make their lives better every day. It truly takes a village.
A Celebration of Veryl’s life will be held at THE CANADIAN POLISH ASSOCIATION OF LETHBRIDGE, 745 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., with remarks at 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lethbridge Humane Society and spend time with your friends and family debating politics, history, watching football and tasting beer - like Veryl would have.

It was always a pleasure to sit down and talk with Veryl. At every family gathering, we gravitated to the Todd boys and their stories. Veryl was always a bright light and always seemed to have that great smile whenever we met. I will miss his voice, smile, and stories. Know that with great love comes great sadness. Thinking and praying for all of you.
Thank you for being a great teacher and role model. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Country is king is still my favourite quote.
My prayers are with you Ingrid. May you be blessed with many happy memories of your life together. May you be filled with peace as the Lord welcomes Veryl and he is comforted in the arms of Jesus.
I grew up listening to Veryl on the radio. Was fortunate to have him as an instructor & mentor. Was proud to call him a friend in the mall over a coffee whenever I came home. He was instrumental in my career and will continue to be as I am sure he was & will for so many others. Hard to find a better person or one that had such positive influence on so many people. Deepest condolences to Ingrid and all his family & friends.
I had the good fortune to not only be a broadcast student of Veryl's at LCC, but to work with him at my first radio job at the 'old' CJOC in the late 80s. He was a great teacher, and an even better human being. My condolences on his passing.
I will always remember Verl lending his voice to every occasion at LCC. He was a large part of the institution, and he will be missed.
I was a student of Veryl’s from 1985-1987. He was a terrific instructor and had a great sense of humour. My condolences to Veryl’s family!
I’m lucky to have worked with Veryl for many years at CJOC. Through that time Veryl and Ingrid would take me in like one of their own… Veryl would pass along veggies from their garden and tell me how to grow tomatoes from seeds the next year. Like many, we spent time talking politics and his love for family, but we mostly talked about our shared love of animals. Ingrid and family, our family is sending you so much love in this incredibly sad time ♥️ Veryl, until we meet again.
Condolences to ALL of the family. I believe I'll hoist a glass in your memory,, (and discuss some history, politics and football ). A life well lived...
To the Todd family I am so sorry for your loss. Veryl was a special guy. He was a great broadcaster and an amazing teacher. Calm and wise but always down for a laugh. I met him when I was a broadcasting student at LCC. He was patient and attentive when teaching, but more importantly he had the words of encouragement that gave a nervous, naive kid the confidence to push forth in an unusual business. I know a lot of others feel the same. I’ve always admired him and considered him an important part of any professional success I had. I ran into him several times over the years and each time he wanted to know where I was and what I was doing and he would add that he always knew I would do alright.
Ingrid stephanie pam and jason. My heart is broken for all of you. I know what a wonderful person veryl was and he will be truly missed Take care of each other and know you are in our hearts and prayers
My codolences An old Nobleford school buddy.
Dear Ingrid, Stephanie, Pamela, Jason and your extended family. Ingrid, I am so sorry to hear you’ve lost the love of your life, Veryl. Stephanie, Pamela and Jason, I’m as sorry you’ve lost the best dad in the world. My love, thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
I am so sad to hear this. Veryl was a great broadcaster with a sharp mind, wit and a golden radio voice. He presented the news with authority which he then delivered in the classroom to so many aspiring Journalists. He was a great mentor for me as an instructor at LCC, a friend with great home made beer and always up for a good discussion. My condolences to Ingrid, their children and grandchildren. RIP Veryl
Stephanie and Grant, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find solace in the beautiful memories being shared as it sounds like your father was a phenomenal man. Sending to much love and support to your family during this difficult time.
I had the privilege of learning from Veryl, first as his student at then-Lethbridge Community College and later as his colleague at CJOC 94.1 FM in Lethbridge. When CJOC launched in the summer of 2007, he emailed me and encouraged me to apply for the weekend news anchor position. In the interview, I was even asked to share my best “Veryl-ism” which I happily did. I will always remember bringing our kids (when they were tiny) over to Veryl and Ingrid’s house on Halloween so they could see their costumes. Veryl was kind, caring, quick-witted and always eager to share his knowledge with others – whether it was about broadcasting, the CFL or beermaking – and he will be missed by so many people. My deepest condolences to the Todd family in this sad time.
Veryl Todd you were my favorite college instructor when I took the Broadcast Journalism course from 1999-2001. I'll never forget you & the way you encouraged me to start writing commercials for radio which I did for a few years & loved! You made me laugh & now I kick myself for not taking you up on your invite to try your homemade beer. Thanks for the memories.
They don't come much bigger or better than "Tiger" Todd. Thank you for your wisdom, your patience, and everything you shared with me to help me get to where I am today. May you rest in peace. Many condolences and thanks to the Todd family, extended and beyond, for sharing Veryl with us. He will be sorely missed.
My condolences to the Todd family. I was fortunate to work with Veryl from the admin side of Lethbridge College now Polytechnic. He was a great instructor, always had a constructive piece of wisdom to share and was just a super great person. Rest peacefully, Veryl.
My deepest condolences to Ingrid and family. Veryl, or Papa Smurf as our Broadcast Journalism class affectionately called him, was more than a teacher to us. Veryl was a friend, mentor, Dad, therapist to name a few. He was always there to help, support, answer questions, provide a laugh and impart wisdom and advice. I am so grateful to have known him. Thank you for sharing him with so many students who have had their lives enriched and changed from having known him.
Always enjoyed going to his Advertising/PR classes at LCC in 84/85. Our paths would cross again when I started at 1220 CJOC when he was doing the morning news run. And again at the end of my career when he would pop in to visit from time to time at 94.1 CJOC. I also worked with son Jason at CKGY/Zed99 in Red Deer. Veryl was a real pro and funny as heck. Condolences to the family, Brooksie.
Veryl was one of a few real mentors early in my career who got me started on what’s now a 40 year career in broadcasting. May his memory be a blessing.
Sorry for your loss Todd family. Beryl, papa Smurf, was one of my instructors at the college, he made a big impact in my life and treated us like his children. I'm sorry to hear of his passing and he is now with Mike.
My sincerest condolences. I have many fond memories of Veryl during the years he worked at Lethbridge Community College. He was always quick with a smile. And if time permitted there was a humerous story to be told.
Veryl was my instructor and a mentor in the world of journalism. He supported his students with more than just knowledge, he had high standards but also the kindest heart. We all wanted to be his favourite student because it meant that we were meeting those standards. I loved my time with Veryl and am sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. Thank you for sharing your Dad and Husband with all of us! He made a huge impact on my life and am so thankful to have known him.
Sorry to see you go, old Football buddy. Never forgot when you gave me the nickname, " The Toe". Over the years I was thrilled and honoured to know you whenever I heard you in the various media. or happened to meet you. I sincerely offer my deepest condolences to Ingrid and her family.
