Send a Tribute

It is with profound sadness that we share the peaceful passing of WENDELL ANDREW ALCOCK, in his home in Milk River, on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Wendell is survived by his wife Shelagh; as well as his younger siblings, Mitchell (nephew Jackson) and Marshall (wife Tracy, niece Lauren).

He was preceded in death by his dad and mom, Ron and Val Alcock.

Wendell was born on October 30, 1965 at the Kenora Hospital and remained in Kenora his early 20s. Wendell was an incredibly bright man and at an early age, excelled in the automotive field, leading to awards in high school.

Wendell's formative years were spent growing up on Longbow Lake with his mom, dad and two siblings, Mitchell and Marshall. During these years, Wendell developed a love for the lake, fishing, hunting, sledding, skiing, hockey, motorcycles, music and cutting wood. Most summers, Wendell could be found pulling his brothers around the lake on water skis for hours at a time.

After graduating from Beaver Brae Secondary School, Wendell worked at the mill before beginning a long and respected career in inspection with TC Energy (formerly TransCanada Pipelines). Early in his career, Wendell met the love of his life, Shelagh (née Emberly), and they were married on July 19, 1997, at their home in MacGregor, Manitoba. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and a shared passion for the outdoors.

The couple later moved to Kenora, Ontario, where they continued pursuing their dreams of exploring nature and enjoying countless outdoor adventures together.

With Wendell's great aptitude for all things automotive, he also worked in the automotive and marine industry until his retirement in 2025. Following retirement, Wendell and Shelagh moved west to Milk River, Alberta, ready to begin their next chapter and newest adventure.

Although Wendell's time in his new home was far too short, he truly loved Milk River — the wide-open spaces, the peaceful pace of life, and the gentler climate brought him great happiness.

Wendell was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge and was always quick to help family and friends in their time of need. Wendell and Shelagh were also beyond generous in sharing their homes whether it be a fish fry, barbecue, bonfire or a day on their beach.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my brother, but I am also deeply thankful to have shared my entire life with him. Wendell loved Shelagh with all his heart and loved the four-legged family members as well.

Nobody could tell a story like Wendell, and he knew them all. He was the keeper of the stories and I will miss that deeply.

At Wendell’s request, no service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.

I was very saddened to hear of Wendle’s passing. I met Wendle on the pipeline when he was an inspector , then became friends and co-workers at Marine. He was a great conversationalist on many subjects. Much time was spent leaning on tailgates discussing nature, places we had been and people or having a laugh at the events of the day. My condolences to Shelagh and the family. Fraser Hyde

I’m so sorry for your loss. I met Wendell back in 1997 working at TCPL and became really good friends right out of the gate. I was early in my career however this larger than life pipeline character somehow pulled me under my wing once he knew I fished, could cook a good steak and spent time in Kenora. It was apparently the same passions he had in his life and we connected like we were good friends for years. We would often stay together in a cabin when on the road, stay up way too late drinking Wisers and always found time to fish for walleye on remote lakes which vividly remember today. We stayed connected throughout the years and had the privilege of getting to know Shelagh who he adored and loved so much. He was a caring, humble, loving and generous person to his core and that only scratched the surface on the person he was. When I found out about his passing… I felt a loss I haven’t felt in a very long time. I reflected on so many days we would travel together, had dinner together and just talk about life in a fishing boat together. We were like family for all the years we worked together. On our last trip into Kenora we (my wife and three boys) met up with Wendell and he greeted us with his big smile and grin and we caught up on old times like time had not passed. I was so glad my boys had the chance to meet him as my boys knew of him through so many stories. It made me appreciate all the people in my life and not to take them for granted. I will miss him but will never forget him.

My condolences to Shelagh and all of Wendell’s family. I have many great memories of visits with Wendell and Shelagh in Kenora. The fishing trips were made even better by their wonderful hospitality and support. I will miss Wendell’s great stories and love of music. He lived life to the fullest.
